Description
Eve awakens with no memories in an artificially sustained underground forest on Mars. She resides at a specialized school for girls with psychic abilities, training to develop their powers under instructors. Eve suffers recurring apocalyptic nightmares of fire and planetary destruction, causing nocturnal psychic disturbances that affect others. She possesses significant but unstable telekinetic potential, initially struggling with basic tasks like mentally halting a falling leaf.
Her existence shifts when Dew, a boy from Mars's polluted surface cities, infiltrates the sanctuary. He reveals Martian civilization's deterioration and urges Eve to help prevent collapse. Through Dew and her burgeoning powers, Eve recovers fragmented memories, recalling parents on the surface and establishing a telepathic link with them.
Eve learns she is key to awakening the Messenger, an ancient entity suspended for 25,000 years beneath Mars. Historical revelations detail humanity's past: their destruction of the home planet Atlas (now the asteroid belt) through technological excess before colonizing Mars. The Messenger offers a choice: harmony with nature or reliance on destructive technology.
