Meliodas, son of the Demon King and older brother to Zeldris, belongs to the ancient Demon Clan spanning over three millennia. Once the supreme leader of the Ten Commandments, he wielded the Commandment of Love and commanded Britannia's fear through unmatched ruthlessness and combat skill, acknowledged even by the Goddess Clan's Four Archangels. His defiance during the Holy War came through love for the goddess Elizabeth. This betrayal incurred a joint curse from the Demon King and Supreme Deity: immortality condemning Meliodas to resurrect after each death while losing his emotions, and Elizabeth cursed to reincarnate endlessly, dying each time her memories returned. For three thousand years, Meliodas endured witnessing Elizabeth's repeated demise. Wandering Britannia after the war, Meliodas served as a Holy Knight in Danafor before founding and leading the Seven Deadly Sins, Liones Kingdom's elite knights. Framed for assassinating Holy Knight captain Zaratras, the Sins disbanded. A decade later, Meliodas reunited with Elizabeth's latest incarnation and his scattered comrades to clear their names and liberate Liones from a Holy Knight coup masterminded by the demon Fraudrin. Throughout this quest, Meliodas constantly battled his resurging demonic nature, triggered by each death – notably reverting to cold ruthlessness after being slain by Estarossa. His abilities feature Full Counter, reflecting magical assaults, and inherent demon powers granting immense physical strength and regeneration, countered by vulnerability to physical attacks. To shatter the curses, Meliodas embraced his destiny to become the next Demon King, absorbing the power of the Ten Commandments. This path necessitated disbanding the Seven Deadly Sins and allying with Zeldris, securing his brother's aid by pledging to free Zeldris's lover, Gelda. After overthrowing the Demon King and sacrificing his demonic powers to permanently destroy the Commandments, Meliodas married Elizabeth and ascended as rulers of Liones. Their son, Tristan, inherited Meliodas's demonic heritage and Elizabeth's goddess powers. Years later, in the events of Grudge of Edinburgh, Meliodas governs Liones peacefully alongside Elizabeth. When Elizabeth falls victim to Deathpierce's curse, Meliodas remains at her side while Tristan journeys to Edinburgh. Meliodas later joins Ban and Gowther there to eradicate Deathpierce's army of Empties, aiding the final confrontation that saves Elizabeth and restores family harmony.
