TV-Series
Description
Gome-chan, formally Li'l Golden Metal Slime, is a unique golden slime-like creature possessing metallic properties and functional wings for flight. Its name stems from Dai's childhood mispronunciation of "Golden Metal Slime," combined with the affectionate Japanese honorific "-chan." Visually, it differs from typical slimes with larger eyes and visible teeth. Communication occurs through vocalizations like "pii," "slurps," and "slops," yet Dai and close companions understand its meaning effortlessly.
Its background reveals Gome-chan isn't truly a monster but a mythical wish-granting entity known as a "Tear of God," created to fulfill pure-hearted desires. This origin connects directly to Dai's childhood on Dermline Island. Discovering a drop of golden liquid, young Dai wished for a friend. The Tear of God manifested as Gome-chan, adopting the form of a Golden Metal Slime to fulfill this wish. Over time, this form developed its own distinct personality through its bond with Dai.
Personality-wise, Gome-chan exhibits timidity, particularly noted in *A Hero's Bonds*. Despite this, it displays deep loyalty and affection towards Dai, Popp, Maam, and their allies, becoming highly animated in their presence. Crucially, it possesses an inherent immunity to dark influences, including the Dark Lord Hadlar's corruption and Vearn's power, even outside protective barriers like Avan's purification spell. This immunity proves vital during adventures.
Gome-chan's abilities extend beyond its form. Its tears possess potent healing properties, rejuvenating stamina and aiding recovery, as seen reviving Dai. It demonstrates exceptional resilience, enduring a powerful strike from Baran, the Dragon Knight. Gome-chan also exhibits extraordinary capabilities, including navigating paths to the afterlife to communicate with spirits or the unconscious, such as convincing Popp to return. In combat, it can unleash a radiant yellow aura, accelerating to astounding speeds for a powerful charging attack. This charge dented the Orichalcum body of a Chess Piece monster, saving Chiu at the cost of rendering itself unconscious. Additionally, it possesses significant physical strength, notably carrying Dai's heavy Crown of Champions.
Throughout the journey, Gome-chan serves as Dai's constant companion, participating in key events. These include early confrontations like rescue from fake heroes, battles against Hadlar's forces, the encounter with Baran, and efforts to redeem Hyunckel. Later, Gome-chan joins Chiu's party, aiding espionage missions within the Dark Army's territory, such as infiltrating the Field of Death. During one mission alongside Chiu, facing Fenbren (one of Hadlar's Elite Royal Guards), Gome-chan intervened to save Chiu's life, unleashing its full power and sustaining injuries requiring recovery. It later participated in the assault on Vearn's Citadel.
Beyond the main series, Gome-chan appears in various *Dragon Quest* spin-off media. It features as a playable monster or obtainable unit in titles like *Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light* (via specific synthesis), *Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 Professional* (limited-time event), and *Dragon Quest of the Stars* (NPC or equippable helper during collaborations). It also appears as a unit in the *Puzzles & Dragons* crossover, providing healing and damage reduction support, and is included in merchandise lines like stylized figures.
