Description
Larhart serves as a Land Rider in the Dragon Legion, initially appearing as a minor antagonist under Baran, his adoptive father. Born to a Darkling father and human mother, he exhibits purple skin, short blonde hair, pointed ears, and facial markings. He dons reddish robes with dragon-themed armor accents and wields the Dark Armour Spear—a weapon forged by Lon Beruk that resists magic and breath attacks. This spear extends in combat and integrates into his Demon Magic Armor set, activating silver plating with a demonic motif.
Larhart's personality revolves around absolute loyalty to Baran, whom he views as mentor and father. While generally disdainful of humans, he prioritizes Baran's objectives over personal biases. In battle, he values efficiency and honor, rejecting tactics like hostage-taking; this principle leads him to execute fellow Dragon Rider Borahorn for such dishonor. Specializing in high-speed spear techniques, he uses spins for momentum and evasion, culminating in his signature Sunder Claw—an aerial spin releasing a devastating shockwave. His combat prowess rivals Legion Commanders, nearly defeating Hyunckel despite the latter's dominance over other Dragon Riders. After Baran revives him with dragon blood in a ritual, Larhart's physical capabilities may heighten, though the specifics remain undefined.
Larhart first emerges during Baran's campaign to retrieve his son, Dai. Confronting Popp and Hyunckel, he duels Hyunckel, recognizing their shared connection through Dark Armour weapons. Initially overpowering his foe, Larhart falls to Hyunckel's close-range Grand Cross. In his final moments, he entrusts his spear to Hyunckel and implores him to free Baran from hatred. Baran's revival ritual using his blood eventually restores only Larhart after an extended period.
Revived, Larhart joins Dai's cause to honor Baran's reformed will. During the Halo Arc, he rescues Hyunckel and Hym from King Maximum at Vearn's palace, reclaiming his Dark Armour Spear and obliterating enemies with Sunder Claw. In the Bloody Fight Arc, he aids the party against Mystvearn, providing critical support for Popp and Maam to analyze weaknesses. After Vearn's defeat, he travels with Hyunckel.
In spin-offs, Larhart appears in *Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light* as an S-rank monster obtainable via synthesis, with an SS-rank "Land Rider Larhart" form wielding Sunder Claw and Flash Multithrust. The mobile game *A Hero's Bonds* features him as a boss and later playable character specializing in thrust and shadow-based spear attacks, emphasizing endurance boosts and damage resistance. He also serves as a boss in *Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest – The Adventure of Dai*, employing rapid strikes. Pre-2020 anime merchandise occasionally depicted him with light blue skin instead of purple.
