Description
Kuroto Nakano, a salaryman transplanted from rural roots to a solitary urban life, labors under the oppressive weight of an exploitative corporate job. Entrenched in chronic stress, his days blur into cycles of physical fatigue and emotional depletion, casting a pervasive inner "darkness" that stains his cramped apartment and hollow routines.

This stagnant existence fractures when Senko, a self-proclaimed fox demigod, materializes to soothe his anguish. Initially dismissive of her intentions, he resists her aid until her steadfast care—through home-cooked meals, diligent chores, and gentle companionship—softens his guarded demeanor. As weeks pass, his pallor brightens, the cloying darkness receding under her influence.

Nakano’s curiosity fixates on Senko’s vulpine features: her silken tail and twitching ears become unexpected anchors of solace. His playful tail-grabbing antics spark comedic mishaps, like a flustered neighbor misinterpreting their dynamic. Gradually, their bond deepens into reciprocity—Nakano now attentively tends to Senko’s needs, determined to repay her quiet devotion.

Neighborly interactions test his improvisation. When manga-artist Yasuko Koenji probes Senko’s identity, Nakano evades suspicion by dubbing her a cosplayer, exploiting Yasuko’s otaku passions. Further encounters with fox spirits Shiro and Yozora challenge his adaptability, their clashing temperaments complicating his efforts to juggle mundane duties and supernatural entanglements.

Fleeting memories of childhood visits to a shrine and a girl with fox ears haunt Nakano’s periphery, implying a deeper, forgotten bond motivating Senko’s intervention. Though her presence nudges him toward balance—tempering workaholic impulses with shared moments of respite—his inherent diligence and introverted core persist, weathered but unbroken by transformation.
