Description
Sango is a female tabby cat Jewelpet from Jewel Land. Her jewel motif is coral, specifically Corallium rubrum and related jewelry species, with a secondary strawberry motif. She has yellow fur adorned with brown stripes on her head, back, arms, legs, and tail, and brown inner ears. Her Jewel Eyes are crafted from scarlet corals. She wears a red ribbon with a white flower on her left ear and a grey pearl necklace featuring a strawberry coral jewel pendant. In the first anime series, she additionally carried a pink twirling ribbon.
Her personality is bright, energetic, and easygoing, though she can also be rather dimwitted. A passionate love for sweets and desserts defines her character, and she often ends her sentences with "nyan" in all series except the first. In some portrayals, such as Jewelpet Magical Change, she displays selfish tendencies like refusing to share food, though she also shows care for others by preparing soup.
As a Jewelpet, her magical abilities relate to protection, luck, and optimism, with variations between series. Officially, her gem power is described as "Protection: will protect yourself and your family," with magic that safeguards the safety of humans and their families or converts bad luck into good luck.
She first appeared in the original Jewelpet anime during a culture festival. Her Jewel Charm appeared before Lyrica Himeno, and she was awakened by Rinko and Ruby. She used her magic to transform Lyrica into a Matadora, though the spell initially failed to detect a footprint mark left by Diana's dark magic. After discovering the mark on Lyrica's foot, Sango successfully purified her.
In Jewelpet Twinkle☆, she is one of two Jewelpet partners to Miria Marigold Mackenzie, alongside Garnet. Their initial meeting while Miria was home alone was a key event that led to Miria becoming a magician.
In Jewelpet Sunshine, Sango is a student in the Rose class at the magic school, frequently seen carried on the shoulder of her teacher, Jill Konia. She rooms with Komachi, sharing a strong affinity for sweets, and developed a brief crush on Jasper or Mikage. She was temporarily transferred to the Plum class but returned to Rose class shortly after. Brainwashed by the Dark Queen, her ordeal led to the revelation of a robot version of herself. In the epilogue, she and Komachi open a sweets shop called Raspberry Caffe in Paris, France.
She had a very minor role in Jewelpet Kira☆Deco!, primarily making cameo appearances such as walking with Nephrite near Ruby's Kira-Kira Shop and serving as a narrator for certain episodes.
In Jewelpet Happiness, she works as a school nurse, treating characters Marie Hanazono and Garnet. She collaborates with Sakuran and Rosa to form the "Sweets Angel" trio and create a Magic Gem.
She achieved a human form through a Magical Change in Jewelpet Magical Change, maintaining her major interest in sweets and playing a significant role in specific episodes.
Sango appeared in the movie Jewelpet the Movie: Sweets Dance Princess as one of the Jewelpets visiting Sweetsland for a birthday celebration. She loudly proclaimed her identity as a sweets lover, though another character, Gumimin, was shown to have an even greater obsession.
