Description
Gyokuto is a supporting character in the sequel anime, appearing as an adult. She is the daughter of Miroku and Sango, the younger twin sister of Kin'u, and the older sister of Hisui. As a member of the next generation of a legendary family of demon slayers and a monk, her life is deeply rooted in the ongoing struggle against demonic threats.
As a child, Gyokuto was curious and playful, showing a fearless and mischievous side, such as playfully petting Inuyasha's ears in a manner reminiscent of Kagome's first meetings with him, much to his annoyance. In her teenage and adult years, her personality matures into one that is notably calm, gentle, and sincere. She is consistently depicted as kind-hearted, well-mannered, and non-judgmental, always greeting others with a warm smile. This extends to her family dynamics, where she is understanding of her father Miroku's decisions, including his journey to atone for his past, and she attempts to mediate the rift between him and his son Hisui, who views their father as a coward.
Unlike her twin sister Kin'u, who follows the path of a monk with spiritual powers, Gyokuto follows in the footsteps of her mother, Sango, training as a demon exterminator, known as a Taijiya. Her primary role in the story is tied to this profession. She lives with her mother in the former demon slayer village, where her main contribution is crafting and supplying the weapons and tools used by other exterminators. This is a crucial behind-the-scenes role; for instance, the explosive powders and poisons wielded by her brother Hisui and the half-demon Setsuna are items that Gyokuto manufactures. Her responsibilities also include delivering these weapons to other villages and gathering information on demon sightings and extermination requests from the outside world. In this capacity, she acts as a logistical link, seen delivering a requested weapon to a leader of the northern demon slayers and passing on resulting job requests to her uncle, Kohaku.
Her key relationships are primarily familial. She shares a close bond with her twin sister Kin'u, with the two collectively nicknamed KinGyo by their parents. She acts as a supportive daughter to Sango, helping her in the workshop. In her role as the older sister, she shows concern for Hisui's strained relationship with their father, hoping for reconciliation. She is also the niece of Kohaku, a prominent demon slayer leader.
In terms of abilities, Gyokuto is a trained demon slayer, though her skills lean more toward craftsmanship and alchemy than frontline combat. Her most documented ability is the use of poison powder, a tool she employs effectively against demons such as the Takonyudo. While her sister Kin'u is noted for spiritual powers like applying sacred seals, Gyokuto's strength lies in the practical creation of demon-slaying implements, ranging from weapons to medicines. Her development from a curious child into a calm, industrious young woman who supports her family and community from the workshop defines her character arc.
