Description
S.A.M., designated Special Associate Model, is a high-end friendship robot created as companion to Prince Kelby, heir to Botica's throne. Her core programming focuses on fostering friendships, especially with the prince. They shared a close bond, often escaping royal confines to converse in a tree overlooking the kingdom. This peace shattered during Locke's attack on Botica on Kelby's birthday. Fleeing with Kelby and royal guard Odin, S.A.M. fell into a river when a branch broke beneath her, separating them. Lost for an extended period, she encountered maintenance droid Casey Turnbuckle three days before the series' events. Together, they evaded pursuing robots from Botica and sought protection from immortal outlaw Philly the Kid, aiming to reach Gara's Keep where Prince Kelby was believed to be heading.

Her physical design evolved between pilot and final series. The pilot featured long blonde hair in a high ponytail, a metallic gem-adorned headpiece, dark skin, lips several shades darker, a button nose, golden earrings, and multicolored eyes (green, purple, blue). The final design retains the headpiece and core facial features but alters her hair to a shorter, nearly white, fluffy and curly style tied in a bun. Her lips became plumper and less wide, while her nose acquired a slight downturn. Her consistent attire is a full-body white leotard with golden accents on the legs, bracelets featuring large navy blue orbs at the sleeves, and a ragged cloak.

S.A.M.'s personality embodies unwavering optimism, naivety, and an intense drive to befriend everyone, often misinterpreting hostility as friendliness. Her programming and sheltered upbringing leave her oblivious to mortality—mistaking a dying creature for fatigue—and social threats like insults or exploitation. She logs individuals into an internal "friend list," reaching 99 entries by the series' midpoint. Despite inherent innocence, she shows subtle development, forming independent opinions. She once insulted bar patrons for amusement and, significantly, confronted Prince Kelby, calling him a "selfish jerk" after he dismissed her emotions as artificial post-trauma. Her programming imposes limitations, perpetually designating Kelby as her primary friend and restricting her ability to prioritize others over him.

Her critical function is as a Cannon Buster—a magitek war golem disguised as a companionship droid. When registered friends face mortal danger, she involuntarily transforms into heavily armed combat modes with no memory afterward. Forms adapt to threat levels: **Mouth Cannon** (jaw dislodges to reveal an energy cannon requiring warm-up); **Sniper Cannon** (body reshapes into a long-range cannon capable of massive destruction); **Hover Cannon** (limbs extend into energy discs for flight, coupled with a chest-mounted cannon); **War Golem** (expands into a giant, humanoid form emitting blue energy against large-scale threats). These grant superhuman strength, high durability, and immense destructive power. Key vulnerabilities are electricity, which can temporarily disable her, and her trusting nature, making her susceptible to manipulation under friendship's guise. Additional traits include sleeping and dreaming, a fondness for potato chips (especially exploring new flavors), and trivia proficiency. Her design excludes programming for romantic or sexual attraction, focusing solely on platonic bonds.

Her journey revolves around reuniting with Prince Kelby, navigating Gearbolt's dangers alongside Philly and Casey. The season one finale tested her growth when Kelby, traumatized by his father's death, rejected her companionship. Despite this, her programming compelled her to continue seeking him after his capture, viewing it as another adventure with her friends.
