Description
Isolde Nebsolv, the elderly head librarian of the Witches' Crest Library, bears wizened skin, pale white hair, a blindfold covering her eyes, and requires a rebreather to survive. She carries profound guilt for her role in humanity's near-extinction, stemming from her publication of "The Chronicles of Haraiso," authored by her ancestor Feodora Nebsolv. This book documented Feodora's firsthand encounter with humans in Haraiso Village, revealing human tendencies toward fear and violence against non-human species. Feodora had intended the knowledge to remain sealed for 1,000 years to allow human-monster relations to stabilize, but Isolde disregarded this directive and publicized it prematurely. Its widespread dissemination exposed human vulnerabilities and prejudices to non-human societies, indirectly fueling human persecution and genocide—an outcome Isolde viewed as her personal failing, harboring immense regret throughout her life.

When Somali and Golem sought information on human whereabouts, Isolde permitted them entry into her secluded chamber, bypassing library security protocols. She recounted Feodora's experiences: rescued by a human girl named Miya and the village guardian golem Haraiso after a storm, Feodora was initially treated kindly in the human village. However, she witnessed humans brutally killing a non-threatening "grotesque" out of fear. Her subsequent revelation as a witch—a species humans considered monstrous—led to hostility from the villagers, forcing her departure despite Miya's continued friendship. Isolde shared this history to contextualize human-monster tensions. During the meeting, Isolde physically connected with Somali, asking if the child feared non-human species. Somali’s response—that she had many non-human friends—provided Isolde with hope for future coexistence. With her final breaths, Isolde directed them to seek surviving humans at "the ends of the world" and bestowed protective blessings for their journey before passing away. Her death transferred responsibility for human-monster reconciliation to Somali and Golem.
