Description
Kagura is a member of the Yato tribe, a formidable and violent Amanto race with transparent skin vulnerable to sunlight, requiring her to carry a purple parasol that also serves as a bulletproof firearm. Born November 3rd on Rakuyou, she lived in poverty alongside her father Umibouzu (a famed alien hunter), her brother Kamui, and her ill mother Kouka. In childhood, Kamui severed Umibouzu's arm during a conflict, prompting Umibouzu to nearly kill Kamui until Kagura intervened. This event caused Umibouzu to leave the family for their protection. Kagura became the primary caregiver for her bedridden mother until Kouka's death, after which she traveled to Earth seeking a new life.

On Earth, she initially joined a gang for survival but fled when ordered to kill, leading to her encounter with Sakata Gintoki and Shinpachi Shimura when they accidentally hit her with a scooter. She subsequently joined their freelance business, Yorozuya, and took up residence in Gintoki's closet. Physically, Kagura possesses vermilion hair and blue eyes. She initially stood 155 cm tall, wearing a red cheongsam. After a two-year timeskip, she grew to 170 cm, adopting longer hair secured with clips, goggles, and a modified cheongsam revealing her midriff. A temporary male transformation occurred during the Dekoboko Arc due to a curse, featuring a beard, scarred eye, and Chinese armor.

Her personality blends naivety, bluntness, and physical aggression; she frequently resorts to violence to resolve conflicts and exhibits "unladylike" habits such as nose-picking or vomiting. Despite this, she displays a caring and protective nature, especially toward Yorozuya members, whom she considers family. She idolizes Gintoki as a brotherly figure and mentor, often quoting his advice, while her relationship with Shinpachi involves teasing underpinned by deep mutual respect. She harbors complex feelings toward her biological family: embarrassment regarding Umibouzu's baldness yet a desire to partner with him in alien hunting, and conflicted resentment toward Kamui, whom she calls "Baka-Aniki" (stupid older brother), though underlying care persists, evident when she hesitates to fight him. Kamui avoids confronting her due to her resemblance to their mother and later teaches her qigong to control her lifespan, indicating lingering familial bonds.

Kagura's combat prowess stems from her Yato heritage, granting superhuman strength, speed, agility, rapid regeneration, and hand-to-hand combat proficiency. Her signature parasol fires bullets or explosive blasts, and she can catch projectiles mid-flight. A critical ability is "Yato Mode," an uncontrollable bloodlusted state triggered by extreme rage or protectiveness, significantly amplifying her power but risking loss of self-control, as seen during battles against Abuto when he harmed Shinpachi. Post-timeskip, she learns qigong from Kamui, enabling age manipulation and potentially extended longevity. Weaknesses include sunlight sensitivity and occasional difficulty restraining her strength, historically causing accidental pet deaths before acquiring her durable pet dog Sadaharu.

Across the series, Kagura evolves from a naive fighter into a more emotionally resilient guardian of Edo. Key developments include mastering her Yato instincts during the Yoshiwara Blaze arc, reconciling aspects of her heritage in the Rakuyou arc, and participating in the final battles against Utsuro in the Silver Soul arc. Her commitment to protecting her found family and city remains consistent through all media, including the *Kabukicho Four Devas Arc* compilation film and the concluding film *The Final*.
