Description
Haruka, known as May in English-language media, is the daughter of Petalburg Gym Leader Norman and older sister to Max. Beginning her journey reluctantly, she embraced Pokémon after receiving Torchic from Professor Birch and meeting Ash Ketchum, discovering a passion for Pokémon Coordinating. This path emphasized elegance and battle skill in Performances and Contests, distinct from Gym challenges. Her personal growth included overcoming a fear of Bug-types when her Wurmple evolved into Beautifly, symbolizing her capacity to face difficulties.

Traveling through Hoenn and Kanto, she expanded her team with Pokémon like Squirtle (later Wartortle), Bulbasaur (later Venusaur), Munchlax, Skitty, and an Eevee that evolved into Glaceon. Her Coordinator expertise shone through inventive battle techniques, such as fusing Combusken’s Fire attack with Squirtle’s Water move into a Fire-Water Vortex. Collecting Contest Ribbons qualified her for Grand Festivals, where she faced rivals Drew and Harley, balancing occasional sibling friction with Max with underlying care and support.

In the *Pokémon Evolutions* special "The Wish," set in Hoenn, Haruka arrived at the Sky Pillar atop Latios, summoned by the Lorekeeper Zinnia. As Zinnia recounted legends of Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, and Mega Evolution, Haruka witnessed Zinnia's attempt to call Rayquaza to avert disaster. When Rayquaza couldn't Mega Evolve due to depleted Meteoroid energy, Haruka's own Meteoroid resonated and glowed. She threw it to Rayquaza, restoring its power and enabling Mega Evolution. Demonstrating her skill, she battled and captured the Mega Rayquaza. Zinnia then challenged her with Mega Salamence, aiming to teach Haruka to harness Rayquaza's full power as part of the Draconids' Lorekeeper duty.

Her journey concluded with traveling alone to Johto for new Contest challenges, while Max returned to Hoenn. Her appearance in *Evolutions* highlighted her courage, adaptability, and deepening bond with Pokémon, reinforcing her commitment to mastering Coordinating and exploration independently.
