TV-Series
Description
Doc is a Nemesis researcher from the Artemis Institute, specializing in Nemesis behavioral patterns and biology. His primary role involves "sanitation," collecting Nemesis remains from affected areas for analysis. He later joins a sorcerer team with Seth and Mélie, acting as their strategist and tracker.
Physically, he is a middle-aged man of average height with an overweight build. He has unkempt brown hair, large eyes with tiny pupils, and a sparse mustache. His typical attire includes a striped blue shirt, blue pants with black shoulder straps, boots, and a distinctive double necktie worn to appear "super serious." Afflicted by a curse, Doc undergoes molting: his outer body rapidly ages and withers, reborn as a toddler from the husk. After one molting, he uses an Aging Potion to restore a child's appearance, characterized by a clean-shaven face, slim build, and well-kept hair, wearing a cyan-striped shirt and similar blue pants with straps.
Fundamentally cowardly, Doc values self-preservation above all. His intense fear surfaces at the slightest hint of danger, often exasperating allies. This drove him toward research to avoid direct Nemesis combat. He is pessimistic, assuming worst-case scenarios, and battles low self-esteem, preferring flight over confrontation. Despite these flaws, he is deeply caring and reluctantly risks himself for companions like Seth and Mélie. Around attractive women like Miss Melba, he becomes flustered and struggles to express his feelings convincingly.
His story begins during the Pompo Hills arc, sent by Artemis to collect Nemesis remnants. After a mishap involving Inquisitors, he escapes with Seth and Mélie to Artemis, where he is forced to oversee Seth's admission ceremony. Later, in Rumble Town, Miss Melba inadvertently pressures him into joining Seth's mission to capture a live Nemesis after mistaking them for friends. Though reluctant, Doc's growing loyalty to the group and desire to impress Miss Melba compel his involvement.
While not a combatant, his intelligence is his primary asset. As a certified Nemesis researcher, he possesses extensive knowledge of magic and Nemesis behavior, advising Seth. His curse grants functional immortality through molting, retaining memories and knowledge even as a toddler. He pilots a specialized ship for transportation and fieldwork.
His relationships drive development: his dynamic with Seth evolves from annoyance to genuine mentorship, while his bond with Mélie adds team stability. His unrequited feelings for barista Miss Melba cause comedic awkwardness but also motivate bravery. Trivia notes include an allergy to flowers and the author Tony Valente acknowledging Doc inherited personality traits from Shifu, a character in earlier work.
