Movie
Description
Edmond Honda is a professional sumo wrestler who appears in the second half of the film as one of its more prominent supporting characters. Of Japanese origin, he is a massive fighter with a traditional sumo wrestler's build, black hair styled in a chonmage topknot, and distinctive kabuki-style face paint. His fighting style is entirely based on sumo wrestling, utilizing powerful palm strikes, grappling techniques, and his immense body weight as a weapon. He demonstrates notable abilities such as the Hundred Hand Slap, a rapid barrage of palm strikes, and the Flying Headbutt, which allows him to launch his body through the air with tremendous force.

In the movie, Honda is first encountered in Calcutta, India, where he is engaged in a prizefighting match against the yoga master Dhalsim. His motivation in this scenario is straightforward: he fights to win cash prizes. During the match, Dhalsim manages to slip from his grasp and attempts to use his psychic abilities to subdue Honda mentally. However, the arrival of the wandering fighter Ryu distracts Dhalsim, allowing Honda to regain control of the fight and win by forfeit. Demonstrating a sense of honor and camaraderie, Honda recognizes that Ryus presence inadvertently helped secure his victory. He also notes that Ryu is a fellow Japanese fighter. As a gesture of thanks, Honda catches up with Ryu and generously offers him half of his prize money, as well as a place to stay.

Hondas personality comes across as jovial, friendly, and remarkably resilient. He serves as a temporary ally and host to Ryu, showing no hostility or rivalry towards the lead character. His role in the larger narrative is that of a supporting figure who aids Ryu and later participates in the final confrontation against the forces of the terrorist organization Shadaloo. When the villainous M. Bison and the military officer Guile locate Ryu while he is training with Honda in the mountains, Honda does not hesitate to join the fight. He bravely charges directly at Bison, attempting to take on the powerful dictator himself. Bison easily evades the attack by teleporting out of the path, and a brainwashed Ken Masters, under Bisons control, strikes Honda from behind, sending him stumbling directly into the boxer Balrog.

This action forces Honda into a brutal brawl with Balrog. Their fight is intense and destructive, leading both combatants to tumble off a nearby cliff. The fall does not keep Honda down for long. He demonstrates his incredible toughness and resilience, as he is later seen hauling the unconscious bodies of both his opponent, Balrog, and the injured Guile back to the battlefield, just as the final conflict between Ryu, Ken, and Bison reaches its conclusion.
