Masahiro Anzai was a Japanese actor and voice actor born in Tokyo on November 26, 1954. He passed away on March 15, 2021, at the age of 66. He was a graduate of the Nihon University College of Art and began his career by joining the theatrical group Gekigan Theater Echo in 1976, which remained his final professional affiliation.

Anzai's career as a voice actor flourished from the early 1980s onward, where he became known for his distinctive voice and ability to portray energetic, comedic, and often eccentric characters. His extensive filmography includes numerous roles in television animation, original video animations (OVAs), and theatrical films.

One of his most recognized roles was as the voice of Ryuunosuke's father in the classic anime series Urusei Yatsura (1982-1986). He also voiced Midori Kisaragi in Magical Angel Creamy Mami: Curtain Call. In the series Slayers, he was the voice of Philionel El Di Seyruun for its first two seasons. His other notable television animation credits include roles in Romeo's Blue Skies (as Marchelo Rossi), Sailor Moon (as Rhett Butler), and Yadamon (as Butch).

Anzai also contributed his voice to many OVAs and theatrical works. He played the role of Nabaro in the OVA Zillion: Burning Night and the role of Majaho in the influential theatrical film Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise. His other filmography includes roles such as Chaashuu in Wild 7, Cherenkov in Uchū no Senshi, and the Cat in 11 Piki no Neko to Ahoudori.

Beyond anime, Anzai was active in dubbing foreign films and television series, lending his voice to works such as The Simpsons and the musical stage production of Anything Goes. Throughout his career, he frequently collaborated with a network of fellow voice actors, including西村知道 (Nishimura Tomomichi), 塩屋浩三 (Shioya Kouzou), and 二又一成 (Futamata Issei).

In 1997, Anzai retired from acting to focus on treatment for severe diabetes, which led to the amputation of his lower left leg and blindness in one eye. After a long period of medical leave, he courageously returned to the stage in 2009 and became an advocate for diabetes awareness. He continued to inspire others until his death from acute heart failure in 2021.
