Description
Hana Shirosaki is an elementary school student and classmate of Hinata Hoshino. As the only child of Haruka Shirosaki, she presents a reserved, mature demeanor that can seem detached or sophisticated beyond her years, contrasting sharply with her vibrant enthusiasm for confectioneries, especially pudding. This passion for sweets is so strong it reliably lifts her spirits or calms her anger.
She wears a floral hairpin given by her paternal grandmother, Sakura. Within her close-knit, sibling-like group including Hinata, Noa Himesaka, Kanon Konomori, and Koyori Tanemura, Hana is the youngest. She harbors a deep-seated fear of dogs, rooted in a belief their bites could be fatal, and is equally afraid of ghosts.
Hana's initial interactions with Hinata's older sister, Miyako Hoshino, are uncomfortable due to Miyako's obsessive tendencies and attempts to dress her in cosplay. Hana tolerates this primarily because Miyako bribes her with high-quality homemade sweets, exploiting her weakness for treats. Early on, Hana displays brutal honesty, openly stating her reluctance to befriend Miyako and threatening to call authorities when unsettled. She often serves as the group's deadpan snarker and voice of reason, frequently calling out inappropriate behavior.
Over time, Hana experiences gradual development. Her vulnerability surfaces during a horror movie when she clings to Miyako for security, though she later voices displeasure at Miyako's enjoyment of her fear. By the series' end, she acknowledges respecting Miyako's dedication to her passions, signaling a thaw in her initial coldness. Her grandmother notes Hana is usually sullen away from home, implying she genuinely enjoys Miyako's company when not subjected to creepiness.
In the film *Precious Friends*, Hana visits her grandmother Sakura in the mountains with friends and Miyako. When Sakura hesitates to make desserts, Miyako steps in, revealing Sakura's poor cooking skills. Sakura confesses fears Miyako will replace her in Hana's affections, but Miyako reassures her. Later, Hana loses her treasured hairpin at a summer festival; Miyako searches diligently, overcoming social anxiety to ask strangers for help. Touched, Hana joins the search. After Miyako finds the hairpin, Hana thanks her while watching fireflies, reflecting on her grandmother's words about Miyako becoming important to her, solidifying their bond. Hana also promises Sakura she'll return, showing loyalty to family alongside her newfound appreciation for Miyako.
Hana's journey depicts a defrosting ice queen who maintains her stoic and snarky exterior while gradually revealing deeper emotional connections. Her relationship with Miyako evolves from transactional tolerance (enduring cosplay for sweets) to genuine care and mutual respect, built through shared experiences and Miyako's consistent efforts.
