Description
Kei Yuki is a human female character appearing across multiple Captain Harlock installments. Orphaned due to Earth government negligence, her scientist father died in a lab accident authorities ignored, and her mother succumbed to grief soon after. Kei was arrested for assaulting a military officer who disparaged her father's death. Rescued during transport to prison by Captain Harlock during a raid, she joined the Arcadia crew permanently, viewing it as a second chance at life.
Her appearance features long blonde hair (often shorter than other Leiji Matsumoto heroines), bright brown eyes, a willowy physique, a primarily pink jumpsuit with a skull-and-crossbones insignia, black bloomers, black boots with white tops, and white gloves.
Joining the crew at age 16, she became the second-youngest member after Tadashi Daiba. Serving as combat commander, chief navigator, and science officer on the Arcadia, she operated radar systems and analyzed scientific data. Her skills include piloting fighter craft like the Space Wolf, predicting enemy tactics via radar analysis, marksmanship, and playing the shamisen.
Her personality blends courage, kindness, and professionalism, often grounding the crew. She harbors strong admiration for Harlock, with occasional romantic implications, and initially clashed with Tadashi Daiba before developing a protective, platonic friendship. Her experiences include betrayal by her fiancé Kazuya, who caused her father's death while collaborating with the alien Mazone; she ultimately shot Kazuya after confronting him.
In later continuities like *Endless Odyssey*, she captains her own ship, the Fluorite, after the Arcadia's disbandment. Captured by Earth authorities and sentenced to execution, she was rescued by Harlock and rejoined the Arcadia. During conflicts against the demonic Noo, she was critically wounded protecting Tadashi, fell into a coma, and had her body possessed by a Noo spirit. Her soul traversed limbo, uncovering Noo secrets while her possessed body sabotaged the Arcadia. Tadashi exorcised the spirit, restoring her.
In the alternate Siren's Port setting, she adopts the alias Mayu Oyama while investigating environmental hazards and corporate entities like AGI and SERO. Here, she exhibits more maternal traits, supporting younger individuals while struggling with confinement away from space. She previously worked at Icha Icha Paradise until its destruction and maintains connections with several residents.
Her surname "Yuki" translates to "Existing Record," symbolizing her role as proof her parents' sacrifices mattered. Her given name "Kei" means "firefly," representing passionate love, souls altered by war, and a guiding light—reflecting her desires and crew role. *Mystery of the Arcadia* contains no direct information about Kei Yuki, focusing instead on Harlock, Mayu Oyama, and the Arcadia's computer.
