Description
Tokugawa Ieyasu first appears as the young warlord Takechiyo, a name underscoring his early vulnerability. He relies heavily on his retainer Honda Tadakatsu for protection. Wielding his signature circular-bladed spear "Takechiyo" and employing a fighting style reminiscent of Toshiie Maeda, this period is marked by his repeated kidnappings during conflicts.

A profound transformation occurs as Ieyasu matures. He discards his spear and helmet, adopting martial arts centered on fist combat augmented by specialized knuckle weapons: the "Bond Bracers," "Spike Smashers," and "Zen Gauntlets." His physique becomes muscular, reflecting his journey towards self-reliance and direct leadership. His combat techniques evolve to emphasize charged attacks like "Tendōdzuki" (Heaven's Thrust) and area-of-effect skills such as "Koga Genten" (Tokugawa Might), unleashing shockwaves or summoning the Tokugawa crest to repel foes.

Ieyasu's core ideology advocates unifying Japan through "the power of bonds," promoting peace and cooperation over conquest. This philosophy crystallizes after he rebels against and kills Toyotomi Hideyoshi to end his tyranny, an act that inadvertently ignites fierce hatred in Hideyoshi's loyal subordinate, Ishida Mitsunari. Their conflict defines Ieyasu's arc, culminating in the Sekigahara Campaign where Ieyasu commands the Eastern Army against Mitsunari's Western Army.

In *The Last Party*, Ieyasu actively recruits allies like Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen for his peaceful unification cause, facing initial rejection. When falsely accused of civilian massacres, he confronts the deception at Sekigahara, urging rival factions to lay down arms. Mitsunari's arrival interrupts his speech, sparking battle. Amidst the chaos, Ieyasu deliberately intercepts a lethal strike meant for Mitsunari, sacrificing himself to break the cycle of vengeance and demonstrating his commitment to reconciliation.

Ieyasu's backstory includes service under Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, with an implied resurrection after an earlier death. His foundational bond with Honda Tadakatsu endures, showcased in battle by skills like "Allegiance" which demonstrates their tactical synergy. Following the defeat of Oda Nobunaga’s resurrected forces in *The Last Party*, Ieyasu challenges Mitsunari to a decisive duel, reaffirming his conviction to unify Japan through personal resolve rather than destruction.
