Description
George Russell, Viscount of Marble, resides at Marble Mansion in England with his daughters Lynn and Sarah. Business debts force him to put up the mansion as collateral with the bank. His demanding work schedule frequently takes him away from his children, despite his deep concern for their well-being. After Lynn's mother, Misuzu Midorikawa, dies in a car accident, George initially tells Lynn her mother has gone on a long journey before later revealing the truth. Financial pressures escalate when his father, the Duke of Woburn, pressures him to marry Magdalene Waverley to resolve debts and secure the family's noble status, promising the return of Marble Mansion and inheritance rights. George resists this marriage, prioritizing his daughters' welfare. The family ultimately loses Marble Mansion to the bank for unpaid debts, leading to separation: Sarah moves to Woburn Castle with the Duke, Lynn lives with Countess Isabel Montgomery, and George works tirelessly to repay debts and reclaim the mansion, a pursuit that strains his health. His goal remains restoring the family home and reuniting with his daughters. In the anime, George avoids marrying Magdalene Waverley and survives, differing from the manga where the marriage occurs and he dies. His character arc centers on overcoming financial ruin and separation through dedicated effort driven by devotion to Lynn and Sarah.
