Naya began his career in the mid-1950s as a member of a theatrical group before transitioning to voice acting. His voice acting debut is cited as occurring in 1969 with the series Yōkai Ningen Bem. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he became known for his versatility, taking on a wide range of roles in anime, tokusatsu, video games, and Japanese dubs of foreign films and television series.
In anime, Naya accumulated a vast number of credits. Among his earliest roles was Barry Hawk in the 1979 series Toshi Gordian. He was a long-standing cast member of Crayon Shin-chan, where he voiced the character Enchou (the school principal), a role he played from the early 1990s until 2014.
