Description
Zanaō is a Fusé, a being blending human and beast-like traits, forced to conceal these qualities constantly to survive within human society and evade persecution. Driven by fierce protective instincts, Zanaō acts as a guardian, especially for younger Fusé like Kyō and Sōsuke, navigating the threats posed by humans—particularly Fusé hunters.

Conflict with these hunters, who view Fusé solely as dangerous threats requiring elimination, defines Zanaō's existence and drives significant events. This antagonism culminates in direct confrontations where survival is the only goal. One pivotal encounter with the hunter Kino costs Zanaō an arm through severe injury. Despite this, Zanaō's priorities remain unwavering: survival and protecting fellow Fusé. Inherent abilities, including heightened senses and formidable physical prowess, are vital tools for defense and evasion.

Living hidden among humans while being fundamentally different forces Zanaō to grapple with complex identity struggles. Protecting vulnerable Fusé becomes a core motivation, fundamentally shaping all actions and decisions. Zanaō's depicted story reaches its conclusion within the film's scope, resolving the character's arc.
