OVA
Description
Christophe Blanc is the President of Generation Bleu, the international agency that deploys Intelligent Flying Objects to combat the mysterious creatures known as Secrets in the anime Eureka Seven AO. Before assuming this role, he was the chief executive officer of a French aeronautics business prior to the Scub Burst event that took place in Okinawa. He is the father of Fleur Blanc, a member of the Generation Bleu pilot team known as the Pied Piper.
In terms of physical appearance, Christophe Blanc has brown hair and blue eyes. He is described as fairly tall and dresses somewhat informally for a president, almost always wearing a blue suit with a crookedly knotted tie, and he often has an unshaven look. He is also known to wear glasses and has a goatee.
The most defining event in Christophe Blanc's personal history involves a tragic accident involving his wife and daughter, Fleur. Sometime after Fleur was born, she and her mother were caught in a serious accident involving a Flying Platform. In a situation where both were near death, Christophe Blanc was forced to make the impossible decision of choosing whom the doctors would save. He chose to save his daughter, Fleur. Fleur survived, but her mother did not. However, Fleur perceived this decision not as a sacrifice but as her father killing her mother, leading to a deep estrangement and hatred between them that lasted for years. Despite this rift, Blanc worked tirelessly and made considerable personal sacrifices to provide for his daughter and ensure her future within Generation Bleu.
As the leader of Generation Bleu, Christophe Blanc is a complex figure who is driven by multiple motivations. He founded the organization to study the Scub Coral and the Secrets, ostensibly for the benefit of humanity. He possesses a sharp intuition and strategic mind, quickly discerning that the enigmatic and dangerous being known as Truth's primary target is the young pilot Ao Fukai. Beyond his public role, a core motivation is his desire to protect his daughter, Fleur, and to reconcile with her, even if indirectly. He is shown to be aware of Fleur's growing feelings for Ao and subtly attempts to encourage their bond.
Throughout the story, Christophe Blanc serves as a high-ranking authority figure and the strategic head of the battle against the Secrets. He is the one who deploys the Pied Piper team on missions and negotiates with various governments, often making politically difficult decisions. He shares a distant and painful relationship with his daughter Fleur, who initially resents him and only joined Generation Bleu as a way to confront her past. Over time, his actions begin to reveal the weight of his burdens and the sincerity of his dedication to his daughter and her comrades.
The character undergoes significant development, culminating in a dramatic sacrifice in the final episodes. When the Allied Forces and Truth attack the Generation Bleu headquarters, Christophe Blanc makes a final, desperate attempt to destroy Truth. He uses the remaining Quartz in the headquarters to trigger a massive confluence explosion, sacrificing himself in the process. Although his sacrifice ultimately proves in vain as Truth survives the blast, Blanc's actions demonstrate his courage and his role as a protector. Prior to his death, he successfully negotiated with the Secrets and the Japanese government to ensure the continued support for the Pied Piper, and he posthumously left his position as CEO of Generation Bleu to his daughter, Fleur.
In the final OVA, One More Time, an alternate timeline is presented where Christophe Blanc survives, albeit injured. In this timeline, the accident that killed Fleur's mother never occurred, so he and his daughter enjoy a close and loving relationship. In this version, he orchestrates "Operation Astral Ocean" to rescue Ao from the effects of Quartz time manipulation, demonstrating his continued role as a key strategic planner even in altered circumstances.
