Description
Ana, an orphaned girl with blue eyes and red hair, endures harsh treatment under her stepmother and stepsister. Forced into ceaseless chores and denied basic comforts, she faces their open cruelty, including impossible tasks and disregard for her well-being.
When a young queen offers gold for spring-blooming galanthus flowers in deep winter, Ana's stepmother compels her into a deadly blizzard. Ana collapses in the barren wilderness, near death. There, she encounters the spirits of the Twelve Months around a mystical bonfire. These entities, wielding control over seasons and weather, take pity on her kindness and plight. They briefly shift winter to spring, enabling her to gather the flowers. They gift her a magical ring to summon them if needed, extracting her solemn vow never to reveal their existence or how she found the blooms.
Ana returns home, honors her promise, and keeps the secret. Her stepmother and stepsister present the flowers to claim the queen's reward, but grow suspicious and jealous of Ana's success. They steal the magical ring as she sleeps. The queen, unsatisfied and curious about the flowers' source, demands to be shown their location. This compels Ana, her stepfamily, and the queen back into the forest. Using the stolen ring, the stepfamily attempts to summon the Twelve Months for selfish gain. The spirits intervene, protecting Ana. They transform the stepmother and stepsister into dogs as punishment for their cruelty, cursing them to remain so until they show genuine moral change.
Throughout these trials, Ana demonstrates resilience, humility, and loyalty. She upholds her promise to the spirits despite pressure and maintains compassion despite abuse. Her journey culminates in escaping her oppressive guardians with the queen, forging an unexpected friendship during their shared forest ordeal.
