Description
Dimple is an ancient evil spirit, existing solely in spectral form for decades with no memory of his human life. His earliest recollection finds him in a cemetery, uncertain if his own grave lay among the stones. He once commanded a gang of spirits until a near-fatal exorcism by the powerful spirit Mogami.
Driven by an ambition to become a god worshipped by humanity, Dimple founded the (LOL) cult, using hexed masks to force laughter from his followers. His first major encounter was when Mob joined the cult; Dimple attempted to defeat the esper but was exorcised. He reformed the next day, approaching Mob with a proposal to team up—a ploy intending eventual possession. Though initially manipulative, Dimple gradually developed genuine loyalty.
He manifests typically as a wispy, smoke-like cloud featuring a detailed face, occasionally forming limbs. Distinctive red cheek marks appear on humans he possesses. His personality blends brash humor with sharp perceptiveness; he accurately analyzed psychological traits like Teruki Hanazawa's superiority complex and Ritsu Kageyama's inferiority complex. Despite his self-proclaimed "upper-class evil spirit" status, he possesses significant knowledge of psychic phenomena and sometimes offers guidance.
Dimple participated in pivotal events: aiding Ritsu's accidental entry into the Kageyama home by bypassing spiritual barriers; joining Mob and Teruki to rescue Ritsu from Claw's 7th Division, possessing a guard to defeat the esper Matsuo; assisting in exorcising the urban legend "Dragger" by possessing a swordsman; and recognizing Mogami during an exorcism job, sharing his past near-defeat. During Mogami's confrontation, he possessed Mob's body per the boy's request to create a diversion.
His relationship with Mob transformed significantly. Though initially scheming to use Mob's power for godhood, Dimple grew protective. He searched for Mob when the Kageyama house burned, shielded him from traumatic sights, and used his only possession opportunity to safeguard him. He admired Mob's humility despite his power, acknowledging his growth during their final clash. Dimple also interacted with Reigen, cooperating at times (e.g., deceiving Mogami about burning bodies) but displaying antagonism elsewhere, such as consuming Reigen's pet spirit Uu.
In the REIGEN OVA, Dimple fact-checked Reigen's embellished book alongside Mob's peers, horrified by its inaccuracies, reflecting his group integration. His ambition resurfaced when he merged with a giant broccoli tree to become a god, creating a cult of worshippers. When Mob confronted him, their battle escalated until Dimple recognized Mob's sincerity. He attempted to reverse the merger but dissipated after sacrificing himself to halt the tree's destructive growth, his final moments acknowledging Mob's influence on his change.
