OVA
Description
Anya Kudō is a 15-16-year-old with fair skin, a tough physique, short black hair, stern red baggy eyes, and a height of 170 cm. He wears non-pierced ear clips on each earlobe and an anklet on his left foot. His most distinctive accessory is a black helmet with a red line—a memento from his deceased older brother Kenya—strapped around his neck. His typical attire consists of a black (sometimes red) undershirt beneath a loose red T-shirt featuring a split neck, layered under an oversized unzipped black hooded jacket. He pairs this with knee-length black trousers adorned with white stripes, black low-heel socks, and black-and-white sport sneakers.

The youngest in a family of five, Anya had two older brothers: Kenya and Shinya. Kenya died in a motorcycle accident caused by falling asleep due to a hereditary sleep disorder. Anya developed the same disorder in junior high, resulting in chronic insomnia requiring sleeping pills. His parents' excessive caution following his diagnosis fostered discomfort, contributing to his cynical attitude. He was eventually kidnapped from a material storage area near the sea, likely seeking refuge from familial pressure. Shinya aspires to become a doctor to cure the disorder and searches for Anya with the Tokyo Investigation Group.

Anya exhibits an aggressive, short-tempered, and deeply distrustful demeanor, frequently expressing irritation through physical gestures like grabbing or glaring. His chronic insomnia intensifies his irritability and propensity for outbursts. Despite this abrasive exterior, he possesses a caring nature and protective instincts, habitually masking his true feelings behind harsh words, aligning him with tsundere archetypes. He consistently carries caffeine pills, sleeping pills, and mint gum. Excelling in physical activities and literature—particularly modern Japanese and short essays—he frequently participates in local competitions. His favorite foods are meat-based dishes and mint chocolate chip ice cream, while he harbors a strong dislike for bell peppers.

His primary weapon is an iron pipe. In combat, he wields high agility and fighting proficiency, reflected in his top combat stat score of 3, though he scores low in communication and perception. His sensitivity makes him particularly vulnerable to Himiko Inaba's flash grenades.

Initially uncooperative and hostile, Anya gradually forms a close bond with Akatsuki Iride after Akatsuki helps him by eating bell peppers. Their friendship deepens despite conflicts, such as Akatsuki procuring sleeping pills without consent. Anya frequently quarrels with Zakuro Oshigiri, whom he dubs "Mask bastard," and shows reluctant concern for Himiko, advising her to prioritize self-care. He tolerates Makino Aikawa, stating he "doesn't hate him," and often interacts with the group as a tsukkomi, pointing out absurdities.

During Stage 2's Oujia Board challenge, Anya initially refuses to participate, dismissing it as nonsense, but joins after Akatsuki's persuasion. He reacts swiftly to save Akatsuki from falling out a window, demonstrating loyalty. In Stage 3, he reluctantly participates in nurturing Murasaki, suggesting she wear a school uniform—a detail influencing her hatched appearance. He later softens when accepting a cookie from Murasaki, acknowledging it tastes good despite earlier dismissing the game. Stage 4 highlights his loyalty when he refuses to let Akatsuki leave him behind during a monster attack, revealing more about his sleep disorder to the group. He vehemently rejects Akatsuki's offer to request sleeping pills from Paka, citing deep distrust of their captor.
