Description
Ai Hayasaka descends from a lineage bound for generations to the Shinomiya Group, forging an ancestral tie to the household. Since elementary school, she has operated as Kaguya Shinomiya's personal maid and assistant, their years of proximity nurturing a sister-like bond. Her duties demand exceptional adaptability, requiring her to adopt numerous identities to shield and aid Kaguya. These include masquerading as a fashionable "gyaru" student at Shuchiin Academy, a maid, an airheaded socialite, a student from another school, Chika Fujiwara's male butler "Hayasaka-kun," and the alias "Smithy A. Haysaca" for covert operations. Maintaining her cover as a Phyllis Women's Academy student involves constant physical alterations—changing hairstyles, wearing colored contacts, and adjusting bust size.

Initially assigned by Gan'an Shinomiya's eldest son, Huang Guang, she balanced guarding Kaguya with spying on her, a conflict that bred tension and eventual guilt as her loyalty shifted wholly to Kaguya. Typically composed and ruthlessly efficient, she handles complex tasks—from building computers to orchestrating social schemes—with precision. She flexibly adopts a cheerful persona at school to preserve her cover, yet reveals a candid, sometimes exasperated side with Kaguya, particularly regarding Kaguya's slow-burning romance with Miyuki Shirogane. Beneath her calm exterior, she admits vulnerability, such as sadness when her mother misses school events, calling herself a "mama's girl." Unpredictable figures like Chika Fujiwara often disrupt her meticulous plans, sparking frustration.

Her dedication yields financial rewards: a monthly salary of 500,000 yen and a 4-million-yen annual bonus, accumulating over 40 million yen in savings after a decade. Beyond espionage, her strengths include sharp observation, technological skill, and rapid role adaptation. However, her inexperience in romance surfaces when advising Kaguya on coaching Yu Ishigami—advice he dismisses as purely theoretical. A pivotal trip intensifies her guilt over her spying mandate, complicated by an incident involving Gan'an Shinomiya's third son, leading her to resign. After Kaguya learns the truth and forgives her, their bond rebuilds on mutual trust and equality. Post-resignation, Hayasaka continues supporting Kaguya voluntarily while pursuing independence, tentative friendships, and personal growth beyond her former obligations.
