Description
Ai arrives in Animal Village via Kapp'n's taxi as a new resident. She sports ruby-colored hair in high pigtails, large mauve eyes with small black eyelashes, and a small, round nose. Her initial outfit includes a yellow bolero, blossom dress, blue and white striped stockings, and red heart-shaped shoes; she later wears a swimsuit, kimono, and winter clothing.

Shortly after settling in, Ai starts working delivery tasks for Tom Nook at Nook's Cranny. This job helps her meet villagers, leading to friendships with Rosie the cat, Alfonso the alligator, Whitney the wolf, and Margie the elephant. She also befriends Yū, another human visitor. Ai displays a skittish nature, notably when distressed by a spider landing on her face until Yū helps.

Kind yet determined, Ai encourages Margie's dream of becoming a fashion designer, using "cherry pie" as a metaphor for pursuing personal fulfillment. She writes regular letters to her mother, reflecting a close bond. Her personal journey involves seeking her own "cherry pie" within the village. This search includes discovering mysterious bottled messages hinting at a winter miracle, prompting her to plant pine trees across the community.

A pivotal moment arises when Margie departs abruptly to pursue fashion design elsewhere, leaving Ai heartbroken over the lack of farewell. A subsequent letter from Margie explains the difficulty of goodbyes, helping Ai reconcile and refocus. During the Winter Festival, Ai coordinates efforts to help Gulliver, an alien whose UFO crashes nearby, retrieving scattered parts with friends, including the returned Margie. Their success leads an extraterrestrial being to create a constellation in Ai's likeness as thanks. Combined with her pine trees forming a star shape, this results in Ai winning the festival and solidifying her belonging in Animal Village.

Her relationships evolve: she mends ties with Apollo the eagle after accidentally damaging his blue rose garden, shares playful fossil hunts with Yū and Alfonso, and receives mentorship from Whitney during emotional lows. Her name "Ai" means "love" in Japanese and Chinese; combined with "Yū," it forms the word for "friendship" or "evening love," reflecting her story's themes.
