Description
Hachi draws his origin from the bronze statue of Hachiko, a real Akita dog celebrated for his unwavering loyalty. For over nine years, Hachiko faithfully awaited his deceased owner at Shibuya Station. As the official mascot of the Shibuya City Tourism Association, Hachi embodies this loyal spirit, established on November 1, 2018, to showcase Shibuya's appeal.
His essence is spiritual, intrinsically tied to the Hachiko statue that stands as a guardian over Shibuya. This character project launched during the 100th anniversary of the real Hachiko’s birth, strengthening his symbolic ties to Shibuya’s history and values.
Hachi engages in leisurely daily routines across modern Shibuya, interacting with cheerful companions: Mike, Nana, Harry, Kuro, and Moyai. These activities mirror ordinary urban life, free from dramatic arcs. His existence revolves around observing and participating in Shibuya’s contemporary flow while upholding his role as a symbolic protector.
Visually, Hachi appears as a stylized dog character, directly echoing the Hachiko statue that inspired him. He performs the theme song "Dusk," deepening his connection to his namesake’s enduring legacy.
