Description
Taro Soramame, alias Butch in select dubs, embodies a "bad boy" persona with his ever-present sunglasses and childhood-origin cigarette habit. Though projecting a delinquent image, he balances this with a relaxed, non-threatening attitude and a protective bond with younger brother Peasuke, whose mishaps he routinely resolves. His attempts to appear unflappable falter when faced with superior strength, as seen when Arale shattered a tree to awe him into deference.
School life casts him as the baseball team captain, clashing with authority figures like Midori Yamabuki over his smoking. He later volunteers for perilous missions, joining Senbei Norimaki and Arale on a space expedition to rescue Midori from Dr. Mashirito.
Foreshadowed early in the series, his adulthood sees him transition into a police officer role, sporting his trademark sunglasses and wielding a snub-nosed.357 Magnum. This career coincides with marriage to Tsururin of the Tsun family, with the couple settling into Anguirus Apartments.
Crossover appearances in the Dragon Ball universe depict him comically struggling to apprehend foes like General Blue, underscoring his earnest yet inept law enforcement efforts. His 1997 Dr. Slump redesign mellowed his rebellious aesthetic, swapping sharp edges for blonde spiked hair and a gentler presence.
Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission features a cameo with Peasuke and Akane during a mall-hosted tournament. A trivia note highlights his authored book, I Used To Be A Bad Kid, chronicling his evolution from troublemaker to officer.
