Daniel steps in as Kanea Marigold's caretaker during her mother Ann Marigold's frequent work absences. His intimate knowledge of company secrets, including Yamamoto's history as a space pirate, leads Ann to deem him a liability, resulting in his termination from Gentleman of the Cosmos. To exact revenge for his dismissal, Daniel exposes Ann's past as a wanted criminal during the Maza dimension tunnel's opening ceremony. This exposure contributes to the United Earth Federation revoking the company's exclusive tunnel franchise and closing all dimensional tunnels after a near-catastrophe. Realizing the consequences, Daniel attempts to rescue Ann during the tunnel accident, nearly sacrificing himself. Following Gentleman of the Cosmos' bankruptcy, he becomes the sole loyal staff member supporting Kanea's pledge to rebuild the company.
