Usopp, known as Lysop in certain regional translations, features in the non-canon animated short "Jango's Dance Carnival" as a member of the Straw Hat Pirates. He arrives at Mirror Ball Island with his crewmates for a major dance festival. After Marines identify Monkey D. Luffy and give chase, Usopp joins the crew's escape effort. Amidst the pursuit, the hypnotist Jango exploits the island's giant disco ball to massively amplify his powers, compelling everyone present—Usopp and the Straw Hats included—into uncontrollable dancing. Usopp remains caught in the mass hypnosis, dancing to exhaustion until the effects finally subside.
Usopp's history with Jango stems from earlier canonical events in Syrup Village. As a resident, Usopp founded the "Usopp Pirates" with village children, regularly sharing invented pirate tales. When the Black Cat Pirates, commanded by Captain Kuro with first mate Jango, schemed to murder the heiress Kaya, Usopp exposed their plot. He actively resisted them, confronting Jango directly using improvised weapons like his slingshot ("Gunpowder Star"). During this clash, Usopp decisively defeated Jango with a single shot, showcasing his resourcefulness despite his typical cowardice. Following Kuro's defeat, the Black Cat Pirates abandoned Jango, while Usopp stayed to protect Syrup Village. Inspired by these events, Kaya began training as a doctor's apprentice, often with the Usopp Pirates nearby.
Jango later reappeared in the cover story "Jango's Dance Paradise," where his path indirectly crossed Usopp's legacy. Fleeing Marines on Mirror Ball Island, Jango remembered being chased out of Syrup Village by the Usopp Pirates after seeking food there. This incident reinforced his fugitive status and led to his eventual enlistment in the Marines alongside Fullbody, following a series of comedic and action-filled events.
Usopp's role in "Jango's Dance Carnival" reflects his established characterization: showing panic during crises yet demonstrating loyalty to his crew. His involvement is ensemble-focused, sharing screen time equally with the core East Blue Straw Hats (Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Sanji) during the island-wide hypnosis sequence. The short provides no unique character development or background expansion for Usopp beyond these consistent traits.
