Description
Usopp, born in Syrup Village, is the son of pirate Yasopp and the late Banchina. His father's departure with the Red-Haired Pirates and his mother's death during his childhood led him to fabricate stories of pirate attacks and fantastical adventures, initially to lift his mother's spirits during her illness. He formed the "Usopp Pirates" with three village children, regularly entertaining the bedridden heiress Kaya with his tales.

His life transformed upon meeting the Straw Hat Pirates. After aiding them in defeating Captain Kuro's plot to assassinate Kaya and seize her fortune, Usopp received the ship Going Merry as a gift from Kaya. He joined the Straw Hats as their sniper, driven by admiration for his father and a dream of becoming a brave warrior of the sea. Usopp had worked on the Going Merry's construction and maintenance at Syrup Village's shipyard since his mother's death, forging a deep personal connection to the vessel.

As a crew member, Usopp employs marksmanship with a slingshot and specialized ammunition, alongside technical skills in inventing and repairing equipment, such as maintaining the Going Merry and crafting Nami's Clima-Tact. Yet he frequently grapples with cowardice and feelings of inadequacy compared to physically stronger crewmates, fueling intense insecurity about his usefulness.

A defining conflict emerges when the Going Merry is deemed irreparable. Usopp fiercely opposes replacing the ship, viewing it as a symbol of his worth and a tangible link to Kaya and his past. This disagreement culminates in a duel with Captain Monkey D. Luffy, which Usopp loses, prompting him to leave the crew rather than abandon the Merry.

Despite departing, Usopp remains invested in the crew's safety. Adopting the alias "Sogeking" and donning a mask, he covertly aids the Straw Hats in rescuing crewmate Nico Robin from the World Government's stronghold at Enies Lobby, revealing his underlying loyalty and willingness to confront danger for friends amid fear.

The narrative concludes with the crew holding a funeral for the irreparable Going Merry after its final effort to save them. Usopp, reconciled with Luffy and reinstated in the crew, participates in this emotional farewell, acknowledging the ship's significance as a cherished crew member.
