Description
Juzo Inui is a former soldier transformed into a Gun Slave Unit through extensive cybernetic modification during a major war, designated "Device #13" or "Thirteen." Amnesia obscures his pre-war identity. Post-war, he works as a freelance "Resolver" in the city, specializing in cases involving other cybernetically enhanced individuals called Extended.

Physically, he stands 6 feet, 6 inches tall with a muscular build. His most striking feature is his revolver-shaped head, featuring a metallic jaw with hexagonal teeth and lacking lips. The trigger mechanism for this head weapon is concealed at the back, necessitating external activation. His right arm also functions as a revolver-style weapon. His typical attire is practical: a tight black t-shirt worn beneath a gray jacket.

His personality centers on a personal motto advocating self-reliance: "wipe your own ass." He maintains a detached, professional demeanor and professes a dislike for children, though his actions frequently contradict this claim. He harbors a notable aversion to humidity, fearing rust damage to his mechanical components despite no confirmed occurrences. While outwardly stoic, those familiar with him discern subtle expressiveness in his behavior.

Combat capabilities stem from his status as an Over-Extended Gun Slave Unit. His primary weapon, the "Funke Faust" (Spark Fist), integrates into his right arm, delivering concussive explosive punches powerful enough to derail trains. His head gun fires a high-powered plasma beam effective against fortified targets but requires assistance to fire. His body contains restricted combat programs that activate an automated berserker state under extreme duress, boosting combat effectiveness at the expense of conscious control. He manages physiological strain and mental stability using specialized medicinal cigarettes; they suppress nerve damage pain and prevent uncontrolled transformations. Prolonged absence of this medication risks dangerous loss of sanity.

Key relationships define his post-war life. Tetsuro Arahabaki, a boy experimented on by the Berühren Corporation, becomes his ward after Juzo accepts a protection contract. Their dynamic evolves from transactional to familial, with Juzo serving as both protector and mentor despite initial reluctance. Mary Steinberg, a back-alley mechanic in Kyusei Pit, provides technical maintenance and synthesizes his medicinal cigarettes. Olivier Vandeberme, a director of the Extended Management Service (EMS), enforces regulatory compliance but grants operational leniency in exchange for clandestine missions. Antagonistic forces include the Berühren Corporation, which seeks to weaponize him, and Kronen von Wolf, an EMS agent distrustful of Extended.

Story developments involve conflicts rooted in his wartime past and current alliances. Early events center on protecting Tetsuro from Berühren agents, leading to confrontations with operatives like Karen and Seven. Corporate interference manifests through Hugh Cunningham, who weaponizes Juzo's cigarette dependency. Subsequent cases include investigating serial attacks on children in Kyusei Pit and capturing escaped Extended prisoners for Olivier. Tetsuro's "Harmony" device, enabling remote control of Extended bodies, creates friction when used to manipulate Juzo without consent—a violation straining but not breaking their bond. Later challenges involve confrontations with enhanced adversaries like Ende and Victor Steinberg, resulting in physical compromises including arm loss and subsequent replacements. Throughout, Juzo prioritizes protecting civilians and allies while resisting corporate or governmental coercion, reinforcing his commitment to autonomy.

His background as a traitorous unit ("Verrat Dreizehn") emerges gradually, revealing his defection from military command during the war. This history complicates present-day interactions with former Gun Slave Units like Seven and entities seeking to exploit his capabilities. Ongoing narrative threads explore his forgotten human identity and the ethical boundaries of his existence as a living weapon.
