Description
Hiro Lee, the youngest son of scientist Malcolm Lee and his late wife, has an elder brother, Kenta, and an elder sister, Reika. He is the most sociable sibling, consistently displaying an innocent and trusting nature.
On August 29, 1997, Hiro interacts with a robotic cat toy, a Koneko, gifted by the family's housekeeper, Misaki. His curiosity leads to the remotely hijacked Koneko luring him and his siblings into danger. Pursuing the toy through tunnels, they discover decommissioned robots and face a Terminator assassin. The Terminator grabs Hiro by the neck until resistance fighter Eiko intervenes and rescues him.
Hiro's relationship with Misaki becomes central. After witnessing her injuries reveal her android nature, he defends her against Kenta's suspicions, insisting she remains their known caregiver. He proposes Malcolm created her, demonstrating empathy for non-humans. This contrasts with Kenta's hostility, positioning Hiro as a bridge between humans and machines. His trust is further shown when he physically intervenes to protect Misaki from hostile humans at a shrine, though he is temporarily taken hostage.
Following Skynet's activation and Judgment Day, Hiro flees war-torn Tokyo with Kenta and Misaki. He consistently advocates reuniting with Reika at "Cat Town," a theme park cherished by their deceased mother, highlighting his attachment to family bonds. At Cortex Industries, Hiro and Reika briefly reunite with Malcolm before Malcolm sacrifices himself to save Eiko. In his final moments, Malcolm reveals Eiko is his mother from an alternate timeline, deepening Hiro's connection to her.
Afterwards, Hiro follows his siblings underground after Kenta chooses not to activate an EMP that would destroy Kokoro, Malcolm's AI creation. This decision leaves their future uncertain but preserves Kokoro as a potential safeguard against Skynet.
