Description
Confined as a child within a Beruhren Corporation facility, stripped of her original identity, Pepper found solace only in a spider she named Seven. Facing disposal for incompatibility with standard extensions, her fate shifted when Hugh Cunningham recognized her unique suitability for the specialized Hands Unit technology. He offered an ultimatum: survive the Hands transplant and gain ownership of the unstable Gun Slave Unit Device #7, or remain devalued. Demonstrating resolve, Pepper approached the violently reacting Seven, sustaining a facial scar, kissed him, declared her intent to free him, and crushed her spider namesake – symbolizing her commitment to possessing Seven and rejecting vulnerability.

Post-procedure, Pepper became Seven's designated handler. Her right forearm replaced with the Hands Unit, featuring a revolver cylinder, she unlocked and controlled Seven's combat programming by pulling the trigger mechanism on his back. This role cemented her perception of Seven as her property; she viewed herself as his "owner." She deployed him for corporate assignments, including assassinations like eliminating Mega-Armed Tokisada under Cunningham's orders. Her approach blended manipulation and possessiveness, often rewarding Seven with nerve-strain managing lollipops akin to Juzo Inui's medicinal cigarettes.

Pepper's personality intertwined ruthlessness with obsessive attraction. She harbored a distinct romantic fixation on Juzo Inui, finding his "dated look" appealing and openly desiring to defeat his owner to claim him. This obsession manifested physically; during a confrontation at his office, she licked his face after Seven failed to subdue him. Her interactions blurred adversarial intent with twisted affection, evident when she provoked Juzo to fight seriously while admiring his independence. Despite Beruhren loyalty, she occasionally pursued personal whims, targeting Juzo outside corporate mandates.

Her development culminated during the conflict with Juzo and Seven's self-sacrifice. After Seven used the destructive "Devil's Backbone" technique to protect her, severing their control link, Pepper was hospitalized. Confronted later by Juzo, emotionally shattered by Seven's abandonment and apparent death, her initial rage shifted upon learning of Seven's autonomous choice to prioritize her safety. This revelation forced her to reconcile Seven's agency with her ownership mentality. In exchange for this truth, she provided Juzo with critical intelligence on Berühren's operations, signaling a shift from prior allegiances. The resolution left her physically separated from Seven, her Hands Unit removed, marking the end of their forced partnership.
