Description
Ellen entered the Tarantula assassin organization as a child conscript after her alcoholic father sold her and her younger brother Alex to the group. This traumatic event placed her under the control of Tarantula's leader, Gordo. Her initiation included receiving a tarantula-shaped tattoo on her right hand, which injected a slow-acting poison requiring regular exposure to the island's unique volcanic gases to remain dormant. This effectively trapped her on the island and bound her to the organization.
Her role exploited her exceptional physical agility and speed in combat, earning her recognition as a formidable fighter despite her slender build. This prowess contrasted with her deep disillusionment with her assassin's life. Resentment towards Tarantula intensified after her brother Alex, also part of the organization, died. She frequently visited his solitary grave on the island, reflecting her grief and conflict.
A shift occurred when Lupin III infiltrated the island. Initially distrustful and assigned to monitor or eliminate him, she gradually formed an alliance. This bond solidified when Lupin revealed that Tarantula's surgeon, Doc, murdered Alex. Doc had coerced Alex into modifying a satellite control program before killing him to cover his betrayal.
Desperate for freedom, she joined a rebellion orchestrated by Doc, who promised an antidote to the tattoo's poison. This hope proved false when the administered antidote failed during an escape attempt, forcing her return. Cornered by security forces at a satellite control center and facing recapture, she nearly committed suicide. Lupin intervened, activating a music box hidden within her pendant – a memento from Alex inscribed with "Look up to the sky, Elly, it's beautiful." This prompted her to notice an escape route through a ventilation duct.
In the climax, she sacrificed herself to save Lupin during a confrontation with Doc, intercepting a gunshot aimed at him and sustaining a fatal wound. With her last breaths, she expressed gratitude for the brief experience of freedom shared with Lupin off the island, smiling as she died in his arms. Lupin later buried her beside Alex.
Her pendant, a key artifact, contained both the inscribed message and the music box mechanism, rooted in her relationship with Alex and symbolizing her longing for redemption and a life beyond violence.
