Description
Mio Minato is one of the main protagonists in the anime Aikatsu on Parade! and a central figure in the earlier series Aikatsu Friends! as well as its second season, Aikatsu Friends!: Kagayaki no Jewel. She is a student in the idol division of Star Harmony Academy, where she attends as a first-year high school student at the start of her journey. Mio is classified as a cool-type idol, a designation that reflects both her polished stage presence and her calm, collected demeanor. However, beneath that composed exterior lies a more nuanced personality. She is highly intelligent, consistently earns good grades, and is capable of accomplishing nearly anything she sets her mind to, yet she harbors a lingering sense that something is missing from her life. That feeling begins to shift when she meets Aine Yūki, an ordinary student from the academy’s normal division. Recognizing a spark within Aine, Mio invites her into the world of Aikatsu, and the two form the idol pair Pure Palette. Over time, Mio’s relationship with Aine deepens, and she reveals a more vulnerable side: she can be shy and privately very caring, especially regarding her feelings and concern for Aine.
Mio’s motivation stems from both personal ambition and a desire for genuine connection. Having been trained in idol activities from a young age, she has always maintained a professional mindset and a strong sense of discipline. Yet her encounter with Aine fills an emotional void she had not fully acknowledged, driving her to pursue not just success but also friendship and partnership. Her role in the story is pivotal: she serves as the catalyst who brings Aine into the idol world, and together they aspire to become the bright Diamond Friends, a top duo. In Aikatsu on Parade!, Mio appears as one of the franchise’s enduring main characters, bridging the generations of idols from previous series through both her performances and her original fashion brand.
Mio’s most notable abilities extend beyond singing and dancing. She is a gifted fashion designer and model, having created her own self-branded line called Material Color, for which she serves as both designer and muse. Her extraordinary fashion sense is a hallmark of her character, and her brand is recognized throughout the idol community. She also possesses strong leadership qualities and the ability to inspire others, particularly Aine, to reach their full potential. Over the course of the story, Mio develops from a somewhat solitary, high-achieving idol into a more open and emotionally expressive person, learning that true strength comes from trusting and supporting the people around her. Her presence in Aikatsu on Parade! underscores her status as a cool, talented, and deeply human idol whose journey is defined by finding her missing piece in the form of a lasting friendship.
