Description
Baltra Liones is the eleventh king of the Kingdom of Liones and a foundational figure in the events surrounding the Seven Deadly Sins. He is the biological father of Princesses Margaret and Veronica, and the adoptive father of Elizabeth Liones, whom he welcomed into his family after the destruction of the kingdom of Danafor. In his younger years, he was a warrior who wore full body armor and rode into battle, but by the time of the main story, he is an elderly man with long white hair and a groomed beard, typically adorned in a royal cloak.

As a person, Baltra is defined by his deep care for his family and his kingdom. He is a peace-loving and respectable father who has shown great personal courage, such as when he risked climbing a tree for the first time to rescue a young Elizabeth who had put herself in danger to gain his attention. Despite the Seven Deadly Sins being labeled as wanted criminals, he placed his absolute faith in them, knighting them and granting them their sacred treasures, guided by his own prophetic visions. As a father, he is protective and often scolds his daughters, particularly Veronica for her tomboyish behavior and Meliodas for his inappropriate antics toward Elizabeth.

Baltra's primary motivation throughout his reign has been the prevention of a catastrophic Holy War. His ruling philosophy is driven by his unique magical ability, Vision, which allows him to see fragments of the future. It was this power that first revealed the coming of seven powerful knights who would protect the kingdom, leading directly to the formation of the Seven Deadly Sins. His attempts to avert disaster, such as ordering the Holy Knights to disarm based on his premonitions, paradoxically led to resentment and a coup d'état that resulted in his imprisonment. This event sets the initial plot in motion, as Elizabeth leaves to find the Sins and restore him to the throne.

Key relationships define his history and actions. His bond with his adoptive daughter Elizabeth is exceptionally strong, with him openly embracing her as his true child. He also has a notable history with Gowther, the Sin of Lust. In his youth, Baltra allowed Gowther to be near his ill sister, Nadja, and even convinced Gowther to disguise himself as a maid, inadvertently giving the Sin a lifelong habit of cross-dressing. When Gowther was later accused of causing Nadja's death, Baltra defended him, noting that his sister had died with a smile, showing his capacity for compassion and understanding. He also serves as a paternal and loyal figure to the Holy Knight Slader, whom he saved and raised from childhood.

Throughout the series, Baltra undergoes significant development from a captive king to a restored ruler. After his rescue, he suffers from a chronic illness that weakens his body, but it is eventually cured through Merlin's research. Once recovered, he actively resumes his royal duties, using his visions to guide the Sins against new threats, including those emerging from the kingdom of Camelot. Having secured peace, he demonstrates great humility and wisdom by formally stepping down from the throne, proposing that Meliodas succeed him as king to usher in a new era. After his retirement, his personality lightens considerably, revealing a doting and eager grandfather who buys toys for his unborn grandchildren.

In terms of abilities, while not a frontline combatant in his old age, Baltra possesses a power level of 530, making him stronger than the average Holy Knight. His true strength lies in his magical power, Vision. This ability grants him premonitions of future events, though they are often vague, appearing as fragmented words or images, and are generally limited to events concerning himself and his immediate surroundings. Despite these limitations, his foresight has proven instrumental in shaping the kingdom's destiny, from finding the members of the Seven Deadly Sins to foreseeing and preparing for the threats that would arise from the kingdom of Camelot.
