Description
Ranko Kanzaki is a 14-year-old girl from Kumamoto, standing 156 cm tall and weighing 41 kg. Her birthday falls on April 8th, and she has blood type A. Her three measurements are 81-57-80 cm. She is right-handed, and drawing is among her hobbies. Her horoscope is Aries.

She adopts a flamboyant and dramatic persona, expressing herself in an archaic and mythological manner she calls “Ranko-go.” This unique speech is rich with allusions to darkness, fallen angels, and mystical power. She often exclaims “Drown in the darkness!” at the peak of her performance energy. “Savor the darkness” serves as her substitute for “good work,” while “cursing the tyranny of the sun” means “good morning.” This elaborate way of speaking frequently leads to misunderstandings, and those who can interpret it are sometimes dubbed “Rangaku Scholars.”

This theatrical identity is a manifestation of chuunibyou, or eighth-grader syndrome. Within this constructed persona, she believes herself to be Brunhilde, a vampiric fallen angel and a half-angel, half-demon princess ruling a land of fire and darkness with immense power. She is deeply enamored with grand themes of good versus evil and often loses herself in daydreams about battles between her angelic and devilish sides. This persona functions as a coping mechanism to overcome her innate shyness and social anxiety, enabling her to engage with others more confidently.

Underneath this crafted identity lies her true nature: a timid, introverted, and easily flustered girl. When not in character, she avoids eye contact, speaks in fragmented sentences, and is prone to emotional outbursts from embarrassment. She suffers from low self-esteem and envies those who are naturally confident without a persona. This shyness is her original state, and the gothic lolita fashion she consistently wears forms part of her protective armor. Despite her dark aesthetic, she is easily frightened by horror movies and ghost stories, often to the point of crying or hiding.

Her background shows she was initially very withdrawn. Her first encounter with the Producer happened while she was window-shopping. Startled by his approach, she retreated into her dramatic persona, interpreting his presence as a spiritual summons. After he apologized and handed her his business card—which she called a “sacred white talisman”—she believed him to be a bearer of “the eye,” a powerful entity capable of guiding her to her “true awakening.” This meeting led to her audition, where she introduced herself as a fallen angel aiming to open the gates to heaven, and she was subsequently scouted as an idol.

A talented artist, she keeps a secret diary and sketchbook she refers to as a “grimoire,” where she illustrates her fantasies and inner thoughts, frequently featuring Brunhilde. She is deeply self-conscious about this artwork and becomes quickly embarrassed if someone sees the book, especially if it contains private feelings. She is also an avid reader with a keen interest in researching different mythologies and visiting architectural sites believed to hold holy or infernal power.

Regarding relationships, she is a member of the unit Rosenburg Engel and maintains connections with several other idols. She shares a close friendship with Asuka Ninomiya, and together they form the unit Dark Illuminate. She is also friends with Chitose Kurosaki and Koume Shirasaka, the latter of whom can understand her unique manner of speaking reasonably well. She admires Noa Takamine as cool and aspires to possess the holiness of Clarice. In the anime, she resides in a dormitory with Anastasia, Koume Shirasaka, and Syoko Hoshi.

Her development reveals a gradual acceptance of both sides of her personality. Initially, she wished to erase her true, shy self and fully become Brunhilde, but through her interactions with the Producer and her experiences, she came to understand that both aspects are integral to her identity. Over time, she learns to embrace her ordinary self, recognizing that her genuine personality is just as vital as the confident persona she created to connect with others.

Trivia notes her favorite food is hamburg steak, which she describes as her “forbidden fruit.” She is one of four idols hailing from Kumamoto and shares her birthday with Momoka Sakurai and Aya Kirino.
