Description
Ryo-Ohki is an artificial lifeform created by scientist Washu to serve as a companion for Ryoko Hakubi and a vessel harnessing the power of three mystical gems. Originally a crystalline spaceship without cabbit form, she served Ryoko under Kagato's control, participating in planetary destruction across the galaxy until defeated and sealed on Earth 700 years ago.
Following Ryoko's release by Tenchi Masaki, Ryo-Ohki regenerated from an egg after her ship form sustained damage. She emerged as a cabbit—a fusion of cat and rabbit—resulting from Ryoko merging the ship's remains with Tenchi's dying pet cat and rabbit. This cabbit form functions as the ship's computer module and can merge with the dormant crystalline vessel resting at the bottom of a lake near the Masaki Shrine. The cabbit communicates primarily through meows, later revealed as a high-speed compressed language understandable with exposure.
Her abilities include transforming into a powerful spaceship; combined with Ryoko, their power rivals a first-generation Juraian Royal Treeship. When Ryoko possesses all three gems, they generate ten Light Hawk Wings, matching goddess Tsunami's power. After fully merging with the "Masu" substance, Ryo-Ohki gains humanoid forms: a child form and an adult form. The adult form appears infrequently due to mobility challenges and Ryo-Ohki's childlike mentality.
Personality-wise, Ryo-Ohki exhibits a simple, affectionate, and carrot-centric nature, often fantasizing about harvesting carrots with Tenchi. She forms a close bond with Sasami, frequently seen alongside her, while retaining deep loyalty to Ryoko. Her maturation accelerates through interactions with Kenshi Masaki, Tenchi's half-brother, during his childhood training. She engages him in games like capture-the-flag and takes him on solar system trips, leading to increased use of her adult form. Despite physical growth surpassing the teenage Sasami, Ryo-Ohki maintains a self-perception as the "little sister."
In expanded continuity, Ryo-Ohki appears in *Tenchi Muyo! GXP*, demonstrating fluent speech in humanoid form. Her power is tied to compassionate treatment, as emphasized by Airi Masaki. She aids Kenshi's training for the *War on Geminar*, further maturing mentally and physically. Later, Ryo-Ohki asexually conceives, giving birth to three cabbit offspring capable of human transformation, confirmed in OVA 5. These offspring bond with the children of Ryoko, Ayeka, and Seina Yamada.
Her regeneration parallels biological models like the immortal jellyfish or mythological phoenix, reverting to infancy after significant damage. Washu prohibits mass-producing Ryo-Ohki clones due to Juraian security concerns, though she creates Fuku, Ryo-Ohki's sister, as a computer unit for the Kamidake II spaceship.
