Their business venture intersects with the main plot after they steal a bottle of Effect Spore from a laboratory for unspecified schemes. This theft accidentally triggers a crisis when the bottle breaks in the forest, releasing poisonous spores that endanger the city and surrounding wildlife.

Despite instigating the crisis, Nyarth and Team Rocket aid in resolving it. Toren uses their stolen Lum Berries to create an antidote for the Effect Spore outbreak. Nyarth joins the group distributing this antidote to neutralize the threat.
