Description
Nyarth, also known as Meowth, recalls isolation and starvation at Camp Pokéhearst as his earliest memory. Inspired by the film "That Darn Meowth," he journeyed to Hollywood. There, he joined a gang of stray Meowth led by a Persian and developed feelings for a female Meowth named Meowzie. She rejected him for being a street Pokémon who preferred humans. Determined to win her approval, he painstakingly taught himself human speech and bipedal walking. Despite this accomplishment, Meowzie dismissed him as a "freak," leading to his departure. Remembering the word "rocket," he then sought out Team Rocket.

At Team Rocket headquarters, he initially served Giovanni directly until a clumsy stumble spilled coffee, resulting in his reassignment to Jessie and James. He once held the coveted status of Giovanni's "Top Cat," a position later claimed by Persian. Within the trio of Jessie and James, he frequently acts as the primary strategist and machinery operator, deeply concerned about their chronic financial woes. His inability to learn "Pay Day" stems from the energy expended acquiring human traits. He demonstrates practical skills including lock-picking, piloting diverse vehicles (like hot-air balloons), and technical proficiency with Pokémon-stealing devices. While he considers Jessie and James his only true friends, he occasionally feels excluded from their closer bond.

Personality-wise, he often indulges in elaborate fantasies of Giovanni rewarding their successes, scenarios James interprets as him having "officially lost it," suggesting a potential coping mechanism. Despite his villainous role, he displays moments of compassion: he deeply cared for Misty's Togepi egg, battled earnestly for the right to raise the hatched Togepi, and later aided May's Skitty against Jessie's plans. He has remarked that in different circumstances, he might have befriended Pikachu, acknowledging their persistent cat-and-mouse rivalry highlighted by their reversed Pokédex numbers (Pikachu #25, Meowth #52). He sometimes befriends outcast Pokémon but usually faces separation by episode's end. He maintains generally positive relationships with Jessie and James's own Pokémon.

His character evolves through various experiences. Early instances, like reluctantly cooperating with Ash's group to escape the sinking S.S. Anne, show his capacity for teamwork. Episodes such as "Bound for Trouble" feature temporary alliances with Pikachu for survival when separated from their humans. Romantic pursuits recur, involving female cat-like Pokémon like Glameow, Purrloin, Leafeon, and Glaceon, though these often end comically or tragically; this includes an infatuation with a Lopunny and Gardevoir later revealed as illusions. A significant development occurred when he witnessed the true form under Mimikyu's disguise, an event that profoundly affected him. He harbors lasting animosity towards Persian, particularly Giovanni's, rooted in past rejections and perceived inferiority. Ironically, his status as a Gigantamax-capable Meowth makes him biologically rarer than a standard Persian. He occasionally breaks the fourth wall, consistent with his teammates.

Dreams and aspirations persist beyond Team Rocket missions. An enduring ambition involves becoming a rock star, referenced in endings, a special Japanese CD, and a Pokémon short centered on a concert. He also temporarily acted as an emcee or newscaster in Pokémon Channel. His distinct voice characterization drew inspiration from old gangster movie characters blended with the comedic infantile tones of actor Jerry Lewis.
