TV-Series
Description
Fumika Kodama, often called Fumi-chan by her friends, is a central figure in her community, known for her kind and approachable nature. As a student at Cherry Blossom Elementary, she is regarded as both intelligent and popular among her peers, often being described as cute and charming. She lives with her parents as an only child in the Sakura New Town area, where she shares a classroom with her classmate, Nate Adams.

Physically, Fumi-chan is characterized by her dark hair, which she almost always wears in a high ponytail secured with a signature pink bow or ribbon. Her typical outfit consists of a light-colored top, often adorned with a small heart design, layered over a black-and-white striped shirt, paired with blue shorts and sneakers. While generally cheerful and playful, she possesses a strong, sensible side and is not afraid to offer a sharp or teasing comment, often serving as a voice of reason who gently ribs her more impulsive friend, Nate.

Within the narrative, Fumi-chan plays a dual role that shifts depending on the medium. In the television anime, she primarily acts as a classmate and the object of Nate's affections, with many of his adventures being clumsy attempts to gain her approval. She also demonstrates a natural, albeit passive, ability to sense the presence of otherworldly beings, making her a frequent target for their mischief. When influenced by certain spirits, her normally pleasant demeanor can become unintentionally sharp or cruel, though she typically has no memory of these episodes afterward. In other iterations, such as the video games, she takes on the role of the primary protagonist, actively wielding her own white pocket watch-styled device around her neck to befriend and battle spirits just as Nate does.

Her key relationships are primarily centered on her interactions with her friend group. She is often oblivious to the romantic admiration directed at her, not only from Nate but also from the fox spirit Kyubi. In a notable reversal of his charming abilities, Kyubi finds that his attempts to bewitch her have no effect, and he ultimately becomes genuinely charmed by her instead. Fumi-chan is also defined by her personal aspirations and concerns. She is an enthusiastic fan of many idols and secretly worries about living up to her mother's high expectations.

In alternate narrative continuities, Fumi-chan shows significant development. A parallel world storyline portrays a version of her who was the one to first discover the spirit world. In this reality, she has her own capable spirit butler and moves to a different town, where she befriends different people and even encounters a spirit version of Nate. Looking toward the future, an older timeline depicts her as an adult, having married her childhood friend Nate and started a family. Now going by the name Fumika Amano, she is the mother of a son named Keisuke and a daughter named Natsume, who inherits the role of a spirit watcher.
