Description
Shigeru Fujiwara is a middle-aged man fostering Takashi Natsume with his wife Touko Fujiwara, distant relatives who welcomed him after witnessing his isolation at a family funeral. He has short black-gray hair, rectangular glasses, and stubble, usually dressed in long-sleeved shirts and pants while reading newspapers at home.
As the only child in a multi-generational family rooted in one town, young Shigeru briefly befriended Reiko Natsume after she exorcised a malicious ayakashi named Karime from their home. The resulting property damage earned him a scolding. He later forgot Reiko’s name and face, never connecting her to Takashi’s lineage. During college, he lived independently and learned to cook. After his parents and grandparents passed, he married Touko and moved into their ancestral house, where they remained childless.
Soft-spoken, serious, and kind, Shigeru reveals a warm humor as Takashi grows closer. He practices pottery and occasionally includes Takashi. He and Touko consciously avoid probing Takashi’s secrets, respecting his boundaries. Shigeru explicitly reassures Takashi the Fujiwara home is his permanent refuge, dismissing apologies for household disruptions caused by youkai encounters.
In *Ephemeral Bond*, Shigeru appears at home while a spirit tree sprouts in their garden after Nyanko-sensei inadvertently plants a seed. Unable to perceive the supernatural tree, he continues his daily routine, oblivious to its effects on Takashi and Nyanko-sensei.
