Description
Shigeru Fujiwara is the husband of Touko Fujiwara and a foster parent to Takashi Natsume. A middle-aged man with short black-gray hair, rectangular glasses, and stubble, he is often seen wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants, quietly reading a newspaper at the dining table. His personality is quiet, considerate, serious, and kind, with a warm heart and a subtle sense of humor that emerges gradually. He enjoys pottery, taking occasional classes and sometimes asking Natsume to help acquire pottery pieces from friends.

As the only child in a multigenerational household during his childhood, Shigeru experienced worry and depression when his mother fell ill and his father was injured. During his youth, he befriended Reiko Natsume after she exorcised a malicious ayakashi named Karime from his home, an act which damaged a room. Though their friendship was brief, he later forgot her name and face, recalling only a beautiful, capricious girl. He attended college, lived independently, and learned to cook. After his parents and grandparents passed away, he married Touko in his early-to-late twenties, and the couple moved into the ancestral Fujiwara home. They remained childless, sharing a quiet life.

Shigeru first noticed Takashi Natsume's lonely and sad demeanor at a distant relative's funeral. After discussing it with Touko, he cleaned out a spare room—the same one damaged by Reiko years prior—and formally invited Takashi to live with them. He and Touko consciously avoid prying into Natsume's secrets, including his ability to see youkai, fearing such knowledge could pose risks. Instead, they focus on creating a welcoming home, assuring Natsume he belongs and is part of their family. Shigeru visibly takes pleasure when Natsume acts spontaneously or comfortably, waving off apologies for household disruptions from exorcisms and reminding him, "This is your home." He encourages Natsume to see the Fujiwaras as his true family, fostering a gradual easing of tension and increased openness.

Shigeru shares a close, affectionate relationship with Touko, reflecting their mutual support in fostering Natsume. His historical connection to Reiko—unbeknownst to him until later—adds continuity to his role in Natsume's life, though this revelation does not change his steadfast commitment as a caregiver.
