Description
Takashi Natsume, a teenage boy with dusty-blonde hair and golden-brown eyes, stands at 167 cm. His life revolves around an inherited ability to perceive and interact with yokai, a gift—or curse—passed down from his late grandmother, Reiko Natsume. Orphaned young and shuttled between skeptical relatives, he endured ostracization and bullying as his claims of supernatural encounters were dismissed as deceit. Pivotal moments in his turbulent childhood include a clash with the Tree Youkai, which cost him a budding friendship, and an encounter with Yuriko Ogata, a peer whose mockery eventually softened into reluctant respect before circumstances forced him to move once more.

Finding refuge with Shigeru and Touko Fujiwara, he experiences familial warmth for the first time, though he conceals his yokai-related struggles to shield them. Central to his purpose is the "Book of Friends," a ledger Reiko used to bind spirits. Driven by empathy, Takashi devotes himself to returning each yokai’s name through a ritual that saps his strength yet grants fleeting glimpses into Reiko’s life and the spirits’ histories.

Years of isolation forged a reserved, wary demeanor, yet beneath lies resilience and compassion. He cautiously navigates friendships with humans like Kaname Tanuma and exorcist Shuuichi Natori, while maintaining guarded distance from figures like Seiji Matoba. Despite betrayals that left scars, he extends kindness impartially, aiding humans and yokai alike.

Uniquely attuned to the supernatural, he wields the rare ability to physically confront yokai and perceive hidden spiritual forces with unmatched clarity. Reluctant to fight, he relies on Madara, a sardonic yokai masquerading as a cat, who bargains protection for future ownership of the Book.

Takashi’s journey balances threats from vengeful spirits and exorcists with gradual self-acceptance. As he unravels Reiko’s legacy, he forges bonds that mend his loneliness, steadfastly pursuing peace while honoring his dual obligations to the human and spirit worlds.
