Description
Satoru Nishimura is a first-year high school student in Class 2 alongside Takashi Natsume, becoming Natsume's first friend after his transfer to town while remaining unaware of Natsume's ability to perceive youkai. His closest friend is Atsushi Kitamoto.

Nishimura possesses short brown hair and brown eyes, standing slightly shorter than Natsume, Kitamoto, and Kaname Tanuma. He typically wears the standard school uniform: a white collared shirt and grey pants.

His personality is humorous and easy-going, marked by a slightly perverted sense of humor. He and Kitamoto actively pursued friendship with the initially resistant Natsume, forging a close bond through their open-minded acceptance of his unusual behavior. Both taught Natsume practical skills like bicycle riding, and the trio frequently plans activities together.

Their friendship began when Nishimura and Kitamoto anticipated a female transfer student but encountered Natsume. Nishimura first interacted with Natsume after returning to the classroom for a forgotten pencil case and finding him asleep. Startling Natsume awake, Nishimura laughed at the clear enunciation of his sleep-talk but noted his genuine smile differed from his polite expressions toward others. Later, Nishimura discovered Natsume unconscious after a youkai attack and insisted on taking him home, sparking a conversation about family before Natsume abruptly left, creating temporary distance.

A pivotal moment occurred when a possessing youkai influenced Nishimura to snap at Natsume for not seeking help folding paper cranes. Regretting his harsh words, he panicked and fled into the forest, sensing something heavy on his shoulders. Semi-conscious during rescue, he overheard Natsume telling Madara that Nishimura was special as the first classmate to speak to him. This revelation reshaped Nishimura’s view of their friendship, though he later wished Natsume confided in him more directly. During recovery, they folded cranes at Nishimura’s home; his brother briefly assisted, prompting visible envy from Natsume over their sibling dynamic.

Nishimura persistently worries about Natsume’s false claims of anemia, researching the condition to provide iron-rich curry bread and suggesting physical activities like biking. He often includes friends like Tanuma and Taki in plans, mindful of group dynamics.

He harbors a crush on classmate Tooru Taki, frequently recruiting Natsume and Kitamoto to accompany him to her classroom. His feelings appear unreciprocated, with Taki potentially unaware. Nishimura occasionally misinterprets Natsume and Taki's interactions as romantic.

At home, minor conflicts arise with his mother over trivial matters like lunch preparations. His brother appears briefly during the crane-folding incident, illustrating a typical sibling relationship contrasting with Natsume’s experiences.

Throughout the series, Nishimura remains unaware of the supernatural but offers steadfast friendship. Later, he joined "Sora's Team" and expressed surprise upon indirectly learning of Natsume’s youkai-related abilities. His subsequent apology helped Natsume feel understood about past rescues.
