Description
Satoru Nishimura is a first-year high school student in Class 2 at the same school as Takashi Natsume. He has short brown hair and brown eyes, standing slightly shorter than Natsume, Atsushi Kitamoto, and Kaname Tanuma. He wears the standard school uniform of a white collared shirt and grey pants, switching to casual clothes during informal outings.

Nishimura possesses a notoriously easy-going and humorous personality, occasionally displaying a slightly perverted sense of humour. He shares a close friendship with Atsushi Kitamoto, and together they actively pursued friendship with the initially reserved Natsume. Their persistent efforts gradually led Natsume to recognize their open-mindedness, forging a meaningful bond. Nishimura was the first classmate to speak to Natsume upon his transfer, returning to the classroom to retrieve a forgotten pencil case and finding Natsume asleep. His attempt to wake Natsume prompted a defensive reaction due to a nightmare. Nishimura laughed apologetically, noting the unusual clarity of Natsume's sleep-talking, which elicited Natsume's first genuine smile towards him. This marked the beginning of their connection.

Nishimura and Kitamoto consistently supported Natsume, including teaching him to ride a bicycle after discovering he couldn't. They frequently organized group activities. Nishimura's concern surfaced when he found Natsume seemingly unconscious in bushes after a youkai attack. Believing it was anemia, Nishimura insisted he rest at the Nishimura house. Conversations about family there inadvertently caused Natsume discomfort, especially regarding Nishimura's older brother. Learning later from Sasada about Natsume's unstable upbringing and frequent moves between relatives, Nishimura realized his earlier remarks might have been insensitive, leading to a period where their interactions were limited to brief greetings.

A significant moment occurred when Nishimura encountered Natsume studying origami to fold paper cranes for a hospitalized acquaintance of Touko Fujiwara. Under the influence of a possessing youkai, Nishimura snapped at Natsume, criticizing him for not seeking help and questioning their friendship's reliability. Overcome by guilt after the outburst, he fled into a forest, feeling a heavy, dark presence on his shoulders. Semi-conscious during his rescue, he overheard Natsume confiding to Madara that Nishimura was significant as the first person to speak to him in class and had brought him happiness. This prompted Nishimura's internal resolve to strengthen their friendship. Recovering in the hospital, he and Natsume later collaborated on folding the paper cranes at his home. During this, Natsume expressed envy over Nishimura's relationship with his brother, leading Nishimura to reflect on how Natsume perceived him.

Beyond his friendships with Natsume and Kitamoto, Nishimura harbors a crush on Tooru Taki, often seeking chances to interact with her and asking Natsume to invite her to group outings, though his feelings seem unreciprocated. He frequently argues with his mother over minor issues like lunch preparations and shares a typical sibling dynamic with his older brother, who briefly helped with the paper crane folding.

In later events, such as the spirit tree incident in the movie *Tied to the Temporal World*, Nishimura participated alongside Kitamoto in trying to identify and pursue one of Nyanko-sensei's separated forms, initially mistaking the smaller form for Natsume's cat before confirming its identity. The anime adaptation maintained Nishimura as an active classmate, differing from the manga where Jun Sasada transferred schools.
