TV-Series
Description
Kamui Katsuragi, an energetic elementary school student, frequents card shops like Cardshop Voyage and Card Capital. A skilled yet arrogant cardfighter, he boasts loudly about his abilities. His confidence is backed by genuine talent, but he fiercely resents being underestimated due to his youth and small stature. Kamui harbors an intense crush on Emi Sendou, leading him to persistently seek approval from her brother Aichi, whom he addresses as "older brother."
Past bullying due to his size was overcome with help from Gouki Daimonji, who taught him strength extends beyond the physical. Guided by Gouki, Kamui discovered and pledged lifelong loyalty to the Nova Grappler clan, a commitment he maintains through events like the Link Joker arc. Early hints suggest Nova Grappler may not have been his original clan.
In Team Quadrifoglio (Q4), Kamui competes with the distant Toshiki Kai for recognition as the strongest raw fighter. Kamui's passionate, impulsive nature clashes with Kai, causing early team dysfunction. This culminates in Kamui abandoning Q4 during their first national tournament over Kai's methods, contributing to their elimination. He later returns, vowing to improve and help the team reach nationals. His growth includes learning to value teamwork, exemplified when he challenges Kai to prevent isolation, emphasizing reliance on teammates like Vanguard rear-guards. This fight solidifies their partnership in searching for Aichi.
During the Asia Circuit, Kamui actively innovates his Nova Grappler strategy to counter challenges like Limit Break. Following losses to opponents like Shinjou Tetsu and Kai, he returns to original tactics, rebuilding his deck around the Battleraizer and integrating the Beast Deity series. He obtains units like Ultra Beast Deity, Illuminal Dragon, refining his strategy to utilize standing rear-guard abilities for relentless multi-attacks. His deck evolves further, incorporating Raizer series cards and focusing on Beast Deity synergies using units like Blank Marsh and Golden Anglet to maximize stand skill potential.
Confronting the Link Joker arc, Kamui rushes to protect Emi and others during an attack on Miyaji Academy, defeating Rekka. However, he loses to a Reversed Kourin. Later, he challenges Reversed Aichi, recalling when Aichi was weaker. Though defeated, the fight breaks Kamui free from Reverse. He subsequently suffers memory loss related to Aichi, regaining these memories after a cardfight with Naoki triggered by activating Legion.
Three years post-Legion Mate, Kamui attends Hitsue High School and works part-time at Card Capital 2, often frustratingly leaving his post. He significantly mentors Chrono Shindou, introducing him to Vanguard and showing keen interest in his growth, particularly Chrono's Gear Chronicle deck. Recognizing Chrono needs a team, Kamui engineers the formation of Team TRY3, manipulating Chrono, Shion Kiba, and Tokoha Anjou into partnering. After testing their teamwork and witnessing dysfunction, he deliberately provokes them into cooperating. Kamui provides ongoing support, informing Chrono about the G Quest and supplying the Depend Card during a conflict with the United Sanctuary branch. He participates in quests like the Dragon Empire Quest alongside established fighters.
Kamui possesses a rare ability to break the fourth wall. He is frequently accompanied by friends Reiji Uno and Eiji Saga, who provide running commentary. A recurring trait is his tendency to misuse words and phrases, leading to frequent malapropisms that embarrass him when corrected. His preferred in-game strategy involves taking the second turn for the first attack, favoring aggressive multi-attacks enabled by Nova Grappler's restanding rear-guards, reflecting his energetic, direct approach.
