Bucchake is Katta Kirifuda and Yohdel's childhood friend, recognized by his short stature and distinctive afro. While possessing considerable dueling skill during Katta's youth, his intense attraction to idols caused him to temporarily forget how to duel. This resulted in a notable losing streak throughout the visible anime period, with no recorded wins.

He played a key role in Katta's early dueling development, teaching him alongside Yohdel and introducing him to Benchan for deck help. During the regional "Triple Dash Victory Tournament," Bucchake partnered with Katta in "Team Tensai Katta," providing a premade deck. The team reached the finals, but Bucchake lost to Ukon. Training with Katta's grandfather, Katsuzo Kirifuda, yielded no victories, including a loss to Mimi. In the "Duel Carnival Tournament," he fell to Shachihoko in the semi-finals. A significant moment came when he dueled a possessed Yohdel to save him, managing a win with Yohdel's brief conscious assistance via Psychic Link.

Later, Bucchake attended secondary school with Katta, who convinced him to return to dueling using a modified Dragon deck. His fandom for the idol group Haraguro X, especially member Erika, led to an encounter where she deliberately bumped into him. This resulted in an exhibition duel during a concert. He showcased his skills using his new card, Chake's Spirit, to protect shields and creatures. Though he lost, he received three idol cards and impressed the audience. He later dueled Erito Erairo, using Chake's Spirit to force a disadvantageous attack, but lost after Erito drew Spiral Gate. Despite the loss, he befriended Erito due to their similar personalities.

During the Duel Masters Land opening parade, Bucchake fell into an underground city where his afro was shaved off. Found later, he faced a penalty duel with Benchan involving spicy ramen for shield breaks, which he lost. He then joined the group searching for Katta. He received a duel phone for the Star Cup and dueled Rambo on his birthday after feeling abandoned, losing but freeing Rambo's captives.

At the start of a later season, his afro regrew after being burnt by Katta's Victory Mode. He dueled Rokuro over a quarrel about Erikatchu, using a Stejura, Samuraikind deck, and lost. Rokuro, part of the Rare Killers, deemed Bucchake's rare card unworthy of taking.

Seven years after the final battle against Dormageddon X, Bucchake underwent significant physical growth, becoming a tall and handsome man. He worked as a television producer, showing the most drastic physical change among the cast. Monitoring a broadcast about Hokaben's baseball interview, he wondered about Katta's whereabouts until receiving Katta and Lulu's wedding invitation. He attended the ceremony with Hokaben and was surprised with other guests to learn Katta and Lulu already had a three-year-old child named Joe Kirifuda.

Bucchake primarily uses Nature Civilization decks, often focused on the Hunter race. His deck evolved:
- Initially centered on Jurassic Command Dragons and Beast Folk.
- Incorporated idol cards received after the Haraguro X concert, enabling new combinations and Dragsolution.
- Utilized Chake's Spirit to manipulate opponent attacks and protect his field.
- Later incorporated Water Civilization cards in one duel.
- In subsequent seasons, featured Snow Faerie Kaze and Jurassic Command Dragon cards, notably from the Revolutionary race.
- He continued updating his deck with new cards, maintaining a mono-Nature Civilization focus in most appearances.
His signature verbal trait is beginning sentences with "Bucchake," meaning "Frankly speaking...," which also serves as the origin of his name. His loss rate remains notably high across appearances.
