Description
Lucifer commands the Illuminati and rules as the King of Light, standing as the strongest of Gehenna's Eight Demon Kings. He is Satan's eldest son and brother to Mephisto Pheles, Amaimon, and the Okumura twins.
Sixteen years before the main events, Lucifer confronted his delusional father Satan during a moment of weakness. This encounter inadvertently sparked Satan's scorn, becoming a catalyst for the catastrophic Blue Night. Lucifer originally pursued an idealistic vision of peaceful coexistence between demons and humans in a world "filled with gentle light." Centuries of physical deterioration from maintaining his host body, however, eroded this compassion into ruthlessness.
Physically, Lucifer inhabits a decaying host body. Blackened, diseased flesh hides behind an ornate orange mask, complemented by demonic traits: pointed ears, elongated canines, and a tail. The immense strain of sustaining this vessel demands constant life-support systems and medical care, including an elixir created by Gedōin to temporarily regain his youthful form. His overwhelming power causes rapid "possession burnout" in any human body he possesses. He later adopts partial body replacements or clones to extend his survival.
His primary objective is merging the human realm (Assiah) and demon realm (Gehenna) to resurrect Satan, believing this unification will end conflict and establish universal equality. To achieve this, he declares war on the True Cross Order and orchestrates the kidnapping of Izumo Kamiki, whose lineage is essential for transferring the Nine-Tails demon. During the Shimane Illuminati arc, he projects himself to True Cross Academy, politely but firmly declaring war and openly acknowledging his strained relationship with Mephisto. This exertion causes severe physical distress, including coughing blood.
Lucifer oversees operations from Illuminati headquarters while tethered to life-sustaining machinery. He authorizes experiments on Izumo and the captured Okumura brothers, though he returns Rin to Mephisto, recognizing Rin as "Satan's property." He expresses interest in Yukio after Saburota Todo notes Yukio's potential and personally congratulates Yukio upon his voluntary joining. Lucifer demonstrates strategic pragmatism, ordering Hachirotaro Ōkami used as "durable materials" for Satan's vessel and cautioning Todo about True Cross Order surveillance.
In combat, Lucifer wields potent light-based abilities: levitation, blinding flashes, and destructive energy bursts. His mere presence generates crushing pressure. Despite his frail host body, Mephisto acknowledges that even weakened, he surpasses all other Demon Kings except Satan. Lucifer claims he alone is capable of killing Rin, though his physical condition makes victory uncertain. His powers extend to remote projections and deploying explosive seraphim constructs capable of breaching exorcist barriers.
Lucifer maintains complex sibling dynamics. He questions Mephisto's rejection of their plan, lamenting that not all beings can endure existence's pain as Mephisto does. He also addresses Rin directly, urging him to consider the Illuminati's goals. His interactions with other demons like Amaimon remain unexplored in available sources.
His backstory reveals constant suffering from body deterioration. This agony once drove him to threaten global destruction—a crisis averted when Mephisto devised solutions involving cloned bodies or immortality elixirs.
